rule clarification required

hey everyone - I know there are some senior refs that post (and not the mexican "senior" refs !!!)

with a pass back violation - the inbounding team takes the ball from where the violation occurs - but if it is on the centre line - can they pass into the back court off the sideline?

I think not - as the only time you can pass into back court is at the start of a quarter or after tech or unsports free throws.

am I right or ?

the ball must be returned to court from the point which the pass back happened so you would never straddle the centre line.

this means the ball would always be returned from the back court on pass back situation

even if only just over the line.

What if the guy was stepping on the line, that is still a pass back violation.

the line is back court, or out of court - so yes it is a violation - front court possession just in front of the line

Is this a back court violation? Person in back court leaps to receive the ball; is in the air when catches the ball and lands in front court.

It's taken from the defences back court, offences front court if the violation occured at half way. Otherwise its taken from where it was touched as a cross court violation.

The question was can you pass into the backcourt.

The answer is no. As the ball will always be passed in from the front court of the team that passes it in.
