Kings v Wildcats Jan 21.

Sydney are back home and will have some confidence after upset of Perth in Perth! on Friday night.

Perth desperately need this one to keep touch with top 2.
It doesn't get easier with games against NZ and a double against Adelaide to follow.

Perth to bounce back today.

Thoughts?

What's better than beating Perth in Perth? Beating them twice in the same round!

Oh, I was expecting a blood bath in Perth on Friday, but not from the pussycats. What was Sydney's secret plan?

This rematch should be a beauty. Perth's ego dented, no crushed, like a beer can discarded after an Australia Day BBQ. Sydney have had time to go into the room of mirrors and say "how the heck did we do that?"

If Sydney are smart they would keep to their secret plan. Maybe Gazey just needs to stand on the sidelines and let the boys call their own subs.

Two wins over Perth in the same round would be very special.

This has suddenly become a pretty important game for Perth's whole season.
(I think the "secret plan" for beating us atm though is simply to play us, and limit any choking to < 20 points in magnitude) We're 1-3 in our last 4 games, with that 1 win being lucky as hell.

Like a few others I'm seeing some worrying signs in our team chemistry/character recently. We're on shaky ground as it is with form & personnel issues, but if we don't get the other part right then a serious slide could be on the cards.
Needs to start today I reckon. This game will reveal what we're made of.

Gleeson offense is in a rut.

Last two games cats have had huge comebacks when they threw the playbook out and let the stars create.

The plays being run don't allow cottons movement, keyway clogged up and kings playing passing lanes well.

it really is a bad habit Cooke has of letting players blow by him to try get the block from behind. Would be much more effective trying to stay in front imo. He's very mobile, quick with great acceleration so he'd be pretty hard to get by

Season looks very much done sadly, and for those saying look at last season at same time. We had multiple injuries that had caused the poor standing, we are at full strength and rely on Cotton and Tokoto far too much. Too many inconsistent players ie: Cooke-Wagstaff-Walker-Kenny and Brandt.

They may change come finals time, but for me Adelaide v Melbourne GF at this moment.

Refs not a factor today...and any of my fellow cats fans who say it was don't want to see the truth.
We have Zero scoring punch off the bench, Cooke, Wagstaff, Steindle, Hire, DKD, Vague are a liability on offence.
Since Knight’s retirement there is no inside D, teams are starting to realise that if you drive you are either draining the basket or shooting FTs.
I’ve defended Cooke all season but I’m done, keep him in Sydney...it’s a cheaper flight back to the US

This current Wildcats roster might have to strap up their shoulders from here on.

Have they put their playoff destiny in the hands of the Sixers and Breakers? If both drop their games against the Hawks but take down Perth then there might not be any games being played in Perth this post season.

They may have done enough to get to the post season but I can't remember a worst month this decade for a Wildcat squad at full strength.

I think Gleeson has a week to get us out of this slump or he needs to go. Let Nielsen take over to try and spark something and save this season.

While the roster isn't perfect, on paper this team should still be a contender. We saw what they can do with some of their performances they had earlier in the season.

The players just look like they lack energy/drive and liek they've lost confidence in themselves and the system. You often see in sports coaches who can have great results with a team over a number of years, but then everything just reaches a point where a change is needed to freshen things up and get a spark going.

I think 1 week otherwise let Nielsen take the reins for the last 5 games to have a bit of time to do what he wants in preparation for playoffs (if they make it lol).

Last few games I've really had to will myself to watch to the end the last few games. It’s hard seeing your team getting thumped but not trying anything different. The 3 ball wasn’t dropping but Gleeson just kept going to that empty well.

Cats need to bite the bullet and release Cooke Jr as I was a fan of his recruitment but he is a very poor basketballer. Apart from a dunk/block or 2 he is a very poor import.
Gleeson is showing he has nothing to fix our issues. It looks like he is pissed off at the players and the players are pissed off at him.
So in saying that at the end of the season no matter how far we or dont get get players that need to be released and the team rebuilt are:
Cooke Jr (if we dont release him now)
Hire (should have gone seasons ago)
Kenny (see above)
Vague (no place in NBL for him)
Kernich-Drew (focus on Steindls form)
Walker (Old and Tired but could be backup off bench)
Cotton (Too inconsistent and too much money paid for that)

Offensively the cats are bunch of individuals. Theres no team cohesion or chemistry. They don't want to help each other or play off each other. the only realistic conclusion you can make is Gleeson has lost the respect of his players or the players simply dont like each other.

Isn't it too late to sign a replacement now though with 6 games left? Pretty sure a replacement needed to play 7 (or 8?) games to qualify for playoffs. May as well keep him for now.
