Wildcats small ball

What are peoples thought on the wildcats small ball lineup that narrowed the margin in the 4th? Tokoto moved to the 4 then brandt, cooke jr and possibly even wagstaff were at the 5 with steindl at the 3. Was the lineup a factor in them getting backin the game? Is it something they could look to utilise moving forwards?

They've utilized it multiple times this season and its worked well.

It tends not to work well when Wagstaff isn’t hitting shots.

That lineup is great when they were struggling with getting anything going and relied on using high intensity and effort plays to get them back in the game... but it was organised chaos, necessarily no structure. It's impossible for them to sustain that over four quarters - they've successful implemented a small lineup to close out games with Walker, Wagstaff, Tokoto, Cotton and Martin but that's to finish the games

I havent seen them put tokoto at the 4 before, steindl at the 3. I think it has real potential to get them a quick run before the opposition adjusts

can work when the opponent only has 1 decent big and they are fouled out. would get crushed in most other times though.

I think it was more the refs which allowed the Wildcats to get back with five quick fouls in the first three minutes than any small ball lineup. How many free throws did the Wildcats make in the fourth? They shot a great percentage, which always helps.

Yeah i wanted to avoid the ref factor, it felt like united got the calls in the 3rd the cats the 4th, felt a little un natural at times

No.
The Refs just made a mess of that game. Obviously decided they'd gone to far when Walker fouled out, so called a bunch of soft crap on Boone to level it up.

Boone is probably the most dominate player in the NBL, and was having a huge impact last night. Taking him out with 7 minutes to play enabled the determined Cats to make a comeback.

Cats were without Knight, Walker, and Hire, so the lineup was of necessity.

Without Knight? LOL yes true and they were also without D.Walker and C.Prather since all 3 had been replaced in the team by other players. But still that's a lot of talent to be without. No wonder they lost!

Wildcats need Martin to at least be serviceable offensively, they will be fine if he can knock down the open shot a bit more and be more selective when trying to take the ball at the rim over the bigger players.

If Prather came into the squad at the expense of Cooke Jr then Martin may see less action and may make the Wildcats more potent. Leaves them thin at the 5 spot though.
