Perth 2018/19

There was a thread for Adelaide in regards to who would you keep for next season.
Let's hear from Cats fans and of course the haters.... Who would you keep and not keep if all contracts expired this season.

Just fold the team. It probably couldn't even beat the 1988 Supercats.

The Adelaide thread exists because Adelaide fans react to every loss by saying "oh well, this season's over, time to plan for next year".

It's way too early to be having this discussion.

Which is $600K for 20 weeks...

Cotton has been unimpressive but would give him another 0.25 season before making that call

I beg to differ. Perth is in trouble.

They're just a few missed shots, a Goulding hot streak, a good game from Reuben Te Rangi and a Tokoto rolled ankle away from being 3-5.

Cotton had two good looks at three rim out in a row. Lost by six to NZ. A few things go their way they are 7-1.

I really need to find a quality Chicken Little 'The Sky is Falling!' image for these types of threads...

God help both groups if you were Kings fans... Well, the Marty Clarke era was really fun (for everyone else), but I think the Wildcats are due... Need to lose a couple more big games at home and have Jack go off and start firing people... Have Matty N defect back home, taking over the reigns from a freshly departed Gaze who had to return to Melbourne "for family reasons"...

Then have Damo retire to follow his true calling as a marriage celebrant, Brandt follow Matty back home to form a new Kings Dynasty, while the Wildcats are left to rebuild, with Hire, Wagstaff, Bragg and Trev... Ahh... if only!

No need for sky is falling image Wookie just generating some chat which is the point of this thread.
There are plenty of Sydney threads already.

Perth aren't in trouble yet... 8 of the next 10 are on the road though.
Other than replacing Cooke nothing drastic needs to happen.

Am I right in saying that Perth & Brisbane are the only teams yet to have a road win this season?

(Am I also right in saying that any half-decent "Detailed Ladder" on a league's website should show me this?)

P.S. Thank you, Chuck Harmison, for keeping the NBL's 2017-18 season Wikipedia page up to date, seeing as there is no simple way I am aware of to see this season's results on one page on the NBL Website.

NBL website sucks for information. Too clunky, and pages don't sit well. Hard to find results, fixtures etc.

koberulz

It doesn't even load for me at all, and last time it did load they'd removed all the 2015/16 results. And what there was on the results page just scrolled infinitely. No pages, no filtering, nothing. It's awful. Every iteration is somehow worse than the one preceding it.

@ Isaac, I think my main reason for saying Wagstaff can go is the chick sitting next to me shrieks every time Wagstaff throws up a bad shot which is far too often.

He was horrible for most of last season and only came good around February.

He is a smart man with all his certificates (straight face achieved) but he does so many stupid things out on court and I think he isn't going to get any better from now on...

Perth should look at getting maybe a Cody Ellis, Tom Jervis type from other teams or even Keanu Pinder type that wants to come back from college or better still give his spot to Walker and get Motum or maybe Vague can get his spot.

I kinda want Wagstaff to be the face of a new Canberra Cannons team, can we make that happen soon please

Depends on how Waxy and Wagstaff play out the season,
and who (if out of contract) gets offers from elsewhere, and who's available.
Brandt has extended so he's not going anywhere.

If Tokoto keeps going the way he is, I don't imagine he'll be in the NBL next year.

I'd probably keep only one of DKD and Steindl, and if Vague doesn't step up look to bolster the front court.

Jervis might come back if the money was right. But playing for the Australian coach is probably advantageous for Boomers aspirants. I think Wagstaff is great at first off the bench if he doesn't have to carry the scoring load with the second lot. He can't handle the best defender.
DKD and Vague need to be significant for the rest of the season to survive in the NBL. Steindl is a better player than DKD and will show his value as the season progresses. Kenny is not going to last and this may well be his last season if he doesn't lift his output. The big issue is the 5 spot. Cooke isn't up to it and if his replacement is of decent quality the rest will be ok.
Just my observations.

The injuries and age of Martin (34 next season) highlight the need for change next year.
I would go with something like this:
Import/ Martin/Bragg
Cotton/ Steindl ( signed for next year)
Tokoto or similar if he goes./ ?
Walker/Wagstaff
Brandt/ Jervis or Landale.

Look for rookie or free agent at backup forward. DKD released, Hire and Kenny retire?

Also if Motum is available put him in as starting power forward with Walker and Wagstaff backing up and take Bragg out

Definitely time for a mini overhaul.
Perth will make playoffs but I can't see this lineup beating Melb or NZ in a grand final series.

Import PG. Martin. Bragg.
Cotton or similar, Steindl
Tokoto, ?
Motum, Walker, Wagstaff
Brandt, ?
