He had some nice moves in the post! Future Boomer for sure.
future boomer? FFS, he is already 24, 25. Get him into the next boomers squad. He is much better than the likes of motum, bairstow.
Mathiang is a centre, not a pf like motum or bairstow.
He'd have to push out at least one of baynes, bogut and maker.
I am sure he can easily play as a power forward

Or Mathiang can play centre and Thon Maker can play power forward.
Keep the options open as there is no guarantee Bogut will be in the mix come 2020.
9 games into a new season and Bogut has already missed 3 of them. I wouldn't be counting on him to be available next month let alone in 3 more years.
Mathiang does not offer anything at the pf position. He's not the most mobile nor is he a great shooter.
Maker at pf sure, but bolden is the best candidate.
Mathiang vs landale would be an interesting battle.
Motum doesn't offer anything at the PF, either. He's nowhere near mobile enough to guard the position the way it's evolved and while he has the shooting range, he doesn't have the playmaking ability.
Mathiang is viable as a bench big playing spot minutes. Baynes plays 25 minutes a game at the 5, Maker plays 10 plus 15 at the 4, Bolden plays 25 at the 4. Asking Mathiang to play the remaining 5 minutes in the front court would probably be ok, and he could soak up a few extra against bad teams.
Agree that Mathiang v Landale will be interesting as it evolves. Landale is 3 years younger and made big strides last year. He can't guard the perimeter either, Markkanen comfortably had the best of him in the NCAA tournament. But you'd have to think the productivity relative to age means the edge goes to Landale at the moment.

Mathiang can't stretch the floor the way Bairstow and Motum can. He is probably a 3rd string center for the Olympics, as we know at very least one of Anderson and Bogut will not be there. Our stock at center is starting to ware thin.
Reath at centre is another one to look at. Last year at LSU.
Plenty of young posts in the pipeline..
I'm sure 1 or 2 will stand out over the next few years.
Humphries
Landale
Reath
Acuil
D.Gak
G.Gak
Epperson
Froling
Pinder
Kiir
Add to that
Simmons
Bolden
Maker
Mathiang
yes, pick Mathiang. I am sick of slow, unathletic guys like Motum and bairstow.
Bairstow is an excellent mid range shooter, motum can hit the 3. Both pfs.
Mathiang has no game outside 8 ft. purely a centre.
Rudy Robert has no outside shooting. If Rudy is an Aussie, you will probably pick motum and bairstow ahead of him? Hahah
Ben Simmons also has no 3pt shooting, maybe motum and bairstow are better than Simmons.
Simmons has proved that you don't need outside shooting and still dominate.
Mathiang can be a double double threat for the boomers on a nightly basis, something which motum and bairstow can not provide.
You have already big guys like Bolden, maker who can stretch the floor.
