Jake Burston spotted at Willetton Tigers first session on Tuesday and looks in fantastic shape, will be especially handy on road trips on, but primarily off the court.
This is the real news we have all been waiting for.
When the Tigers are already training and the Slammers have no coach and about 2 players

Decided to check out the hype about Pal. I actually thought he was average from what I had seen in person.
Man was I wrong. The kid can actually play, and makes it look easy. Maybe not consistent? But surely an nbl level talent at his best.
anonymous
Years ago
Also did a little digging around on his seabl stint. Looks unconvincing from a distance but in all reality didn't have a bad year.
Give him enough time and he would have easily averaged a double double, at 55-60 shooting percentage. Below average free throws, actually terrible. 55-60 %
Some articles I read also tout him as a catalyst for a very dangerous North West Tasmania team that made the playoffs after a 1-6 start. That shift in good play also correlates with him finally starting games and establishing himself in the side. Came off the bench the first few games.
who is the front runner for pals services.
1. Mandurah

3. perry lakes.

Is Cody Ellis limited by injury? Or is he just on a decline?
It's a strange one. He was overweight and has obviously lost weight coming into this NBL season. But now seems to have lost all his strength and also wearing a shirt underneath singlet? Odd.
Lukosius
Years ago
I think he's just a victim of his playing position. In the NBL he's a 3/4, but mainly a 3-man. However the quality of players at the 3-spot this year is probably at an all-time high - Prather, Carrera, Conger, Tokoto, Creek, Abercrombie, Newley, Sobey, Buford - they are all athletic, high flying swingman. Something which Cody is unfortunately not.
I would think he could take Foremans minutes no problem.
Cody isn't that good even at SBL level. Good on him though for not getting spooky and complaining and just going about his business as a team members. Much worse players than him sitting on benches e.g. Hancock
Carl Catalano expected to be named Slammers head coach in the coming days.
Hawks expected to sign Waratah League MVP Tyler Monroe in the coming days.
Lukosius
Years ago
Big numbers for Monroe in the Waratah League - 27pts & 16rebs per game. But it's not the strongest league going around for sure. Should still be solid for PL if this is true.
If he averaged 27 and 16 in Waratah, expect him to average 25 & 15 then in SBL. #bumleague
Just watched his highlights from last season in that league.

Sidetracking slightly, I thought I would post the latest Facebook figures relating to club (and their parent Association's) popularity. These are the amount of 'likes' each club's Facebook page has had. It's not only a good guide to how strong a club's supporter base is, but also how savvy their supporter base is when it comes to the Internet and social media....
5153 likes - Buccs/GABA
3929 - Wolves/WBA
2797 - Cougars/CBA
2790 - Giants/KBBA
2680 - Senators
2309 - Slammers/BSW
2276 - Redbacks
2085 - Tigers
2015 - Eagles
1959 - Eastern Suns/KDBA
1714 - Flames
1706 - Magic/MBA
1675 - Lightning
1646 - Hawks

Kyle Armour has been beefing up, looking HUGE, Eric Bledsoe build.... jk not at all big but will be in better shape next season from what I have seen.
Kyle's issue never was his shape, its the fact he's at Willetton in a system where its Give the Ball to Ray Turner and do nothing else.
Love this douche who keeps calling SBL the Bum League. yet he's still on the forum for the SBL. This guy must have an insanely exciting life, filled with so much joy and happiness, living in a one bedroom apartment by himself and his ex wife's cat snuffles.
Pretty sure this is an NBL forum with ONE SBL thread.
Willeton's issue is they dont give the ball to Turner enough. Too many mouths to feed. When you have a big like Turner you make sure he gets enough touches. Kyle is well past it. They were better with Black on the court than with Kyle.
WHY DOESNT SOME-ONE ASK RAY TURNER ABOUT THE COMPARISONS BETWENN QBL and SBL.
Its a hoops forum, and why be on an SBL thread just to bag it out?
Kyle is well past it? where the heck are you getting that from. He's far from past it. Better on the court with Black? HA you must be kidding me right.
Turner played in the QBL 2014 it was his first stint and he averaged 21 ppg and 12 rpg to now where he is more of a complete player and 3 years older with over seas stints in between and averaging 25 ppg and 12 rpg in the SBL, also remember the SBL numbers were always more blown out due to playing 48 minutes compared to everywhere else that played a crap 40 minutes (until this season).
Doesn't say much for the fact QBL was meant to be SOOOOOOOO much better than the shit SBL. You can check it all out on his I am sure self made Wikipedia Page.
QBL is better. Why are SBL supporters so precious?

If Catalano coaches Slammers will definitely struggle!
They've got no one else for the job, 0-26 on the cards, no Tre Nichols and Brian Voelkel and rumours are Weeden, Puot, Douglas and Lay are moving on/not playing. Starting 5 and 6th man super sub all gone not a great foundation
A year building around Trav Durnin on the cards?

I see. Catalano couldn't coach a winning record even with that line-up. They were well coached last year and irrespective of lineups, Catalano is far from an sbl coach.

Cooper Hamilton from Perry Lakes looking great this off season. Will be my pick for Most Improved in 2018.
Rumour has it Daniel Sahih has returned from overseas. Apparently has grown 8 inches over his time there. Some calling him the Perth Porzingis. Don't know if I'd call him that but I must say in our 1 on 1 workout he looked real good. 5% Body fat. Smooth stroke. Will be a good pickup for Kalamunda.
after reading about the s/w slammers woes with tre Nichols moving to the Hobart chargers , and carl catalano named coach and not many returning players with voekel, lay weeden etc
the giants have lost holmen who signed with the Hobart chargers only to do a knee injury and have signed no -imports , do not have a coach and there local talent is equal to the slammers.
im starting to see some worrying signs for a couple of the proudest clubs in the SBL.
I hope they can get organised and put a competitive team on the floor for 2018 because the SBL need these 2 teams badly.
He has already left Cockburn. He already has a new club.

Cummings will land @ Willetton (where he belongs)...
Sadly no $$$ at Cougars so very hard to retain players.
If no imports and no Cummings, could be a very very long year.
I would prefer to go after Marshall Nelson than Cummings
That's good to hear about Holmen. Marshall Nelson is probably out of reach now for clubs in the SBL. Outside of maybe Perth he is most likely a Seabl or QBL signee.
Eddie
Years ago
So, Cummings going to Hawks will make 16 new recruits for them. Parsons must have more drawing power than Elton John.
no Holmen to Hobart is definitely confirmed and is not fake news. Giants are still without imports (which will happen in due course) and no coach.
Lukosius
Years ago
To cut all the rumours short....
We have been negotiating with Jacob Holmen for the past month or so. However he has sustained a knee injury back in Dallas over the past few days, and has been ruled out of playing basketball in 2018.
He was never signed by Hobart.
We are about to announce the signing of a replacement import, and are in negotiations with a second import.
We also hope to have our coach announced within the next two weeks.
^ Interesting - why then did you say the knee injury was "fake news"

Kyle Armour had 53 last Thursday night vs the Perry Lakes boys at Lakeside.
WSBL- there has been a bit of talk around this is what ive heard the traps.
HAWKS- Edmondson will be non- restricted so can add an import
MAGIC - have lost gilday but carly boag is back
LIGHTNING - know schag is an aussie will add another import . mel moyle and Courtney byrnes to be added - however will lose ash grant to a SEABL team
TIGERS- will lose hootmen and barr , have added priyni and aj jones from the redbacks. also looking at securing a wnbl girl from the eastern states
WOLVES- adding imports to their squad but lose klara wischer
SENATORS- have same imports as last year but have added kunek and Thompson from the lynx
REDBACKS- NOnothing
COUGARS - NOTHING
SUNS - keep import pairing , fejo.
FLAMES - signed maddie allen 191cm Australian playing for capitals former college player- also adding 2 imports
SLAMMERS- adding 2 imports
EAGLES- new coach tanya fisher will replace imports but have 2 .
all you need to do is sit in the stands at a lynx game and talk to people they are happy to talk
Kunek and Thompson will be restricted (Kunek definitely) so that theory for Stirling doesn't work.

the Charles nix connection whilst in Townsville may be the reason for her decision in playing there .

Huge first round o finals.
Party Faylva cruising to semi while Perry Lakes caused serious problems for Australia's most decorated social basketball team Coogee. Ryan Smith's 6 threes the difference while Chudier Pal did all he could for the Shellfish.
The major question, if Coogee are successful next week can they repeat their Lakeside A's form of yesteryear and topple the stacked Party Flayva side. The only flavour this would leave is sour in Shaun Redhage's mouth.

How about individual stats? I for one think +/- should really be used a lot in evaluating players.
Cockburn had trials this weekend. Perry lakes the weekend before. I think Mandurah had open trials the weekend before that. A few teams I think have already started.
Mandurah men have been scrimmaging on Thursday nights down at the marc for about 5-6 weeks.
Mandurah women have been in pre-season for 4 weeks.
Then there's the Slammers who don't even have half a roster
Any new players at these clubs How was Cougars squad looking Women and Men
Cougars looking solid again. Have lost Cummins and DT and Della to retirement but will be getting two imports along with Field, Chan and Pesava and some more Australian's on the way, as they are paying some Aussies now compared to in the years past.
Mandurah will be tough, JJ back in town and healthy, however apparently lost Mullenax to retirement as the body has packed up. Mandurah have targeted some good players and looking to spend a bit to get them down that way. Hussey being rumoured to catch up with Trahair again.
Anon 527 has no clue. Cockburn will not have imports, Hussey is at Redbacks and JJ doubtful at Mandurah
Greg Gurr

Yep, Hussey at the Redbacks. And despite what previous posters have put on here, Marshall Nelson will also be back at the Redbacks.
The recruitment of Hussey in particular adds further weight to the prospect of Joel Wagner playing a lesser role as he edges towards retirement.

Must be getting some big money in order for him to be playing there as Geraldton were paying well.
Did hear that he did not even attend the Awards night because he demanded Geraldton pay for his girlfriend to fly up with him, he actually wanted them to pay for flights for him to attend an awards night. That is hilarious!
Anon 529. Cougars will have imports. You have no idea what you're talking about.
The Board.
Cougars have financing in place for two imports and they are already paying locals to keep them around.

Mandurah should still be tough either way. Having Pal as a local means you can get 2 imports and a few decent locals and be competitive in this league.

Who is gonna take on the Matt Vinci experiment on next? I hate to say it but he is the perfect example of a 2 guard stuck in point guards body.
It isn't the kids skills that is the issue for him. It's his attitude and his ability to be coached.
Lol so we should expect all Wolves players to end up with injured feet by the end of the season
