Would that be a free throw basket, a 2 point field goal basket or a 3 point field goal basket?

Hawks will be hungry for their first win, but Perth hasn't been a happy hunting ground for them.

Great test for Conger getting to battle it out in Perth Arena- very interested seeing how he goes.

Wildcats in a close ish game. Hawks will keep within striking distance but Cats are tough to beat in Perth.

Cats by 6.

Hogwash - what are expecting from Cooke?

What would he need to do to escape calls for his head?

To escape calls for his head Gleeson would need to play him more. Can't call for him to be gone if the coach won't play him.

Article in the paper today said said Gleeson something along the lines of Walker/Brandts good form is making it hard to find minutes for Cooke.

Hopefully we see some more of him, was underwhelming first up but if he's given the chance I think he has the makings to be a good player in this league. I think he can be as good as McKay, if not better.

With his physical tools I think he could be a DeAndre Jordan type player in the league, good rim protector/rebounder/gets points close to the basket, dunks, lobs etc

McKay was elite in his floor running abilities, unfortunately the wildcats didn't use it to their advantage. Cooke looks as quick if not quicker than McKay so hopefully we can turn it into a weapon.

Gotta give Cooke a handful of games before passing judgement - last week was basically pre-season game 1 for him.

To me if he can get in the 5/5/1 range from limited minutes - all is good (for now).

Also depends on Knight -if he gets 15 mins ...there is not a lot of time especially with JP jumping over small buildings and the solid form of Lucas Skywalker.

Hawks were down by 8 until some phantom calls started getting called. Some very very soft calls going against the cats. Hawks are playing well but margin should be tighter in my opinion

Im liking the 2 'game plans' if you like, of the wildcats.

Its almost as if its two seperate teams between the starting 5 which is the 'new team' so to speak filled with new offensive and defensive options. And when that doesn't work or gets shut down.

They bring on the bench of the core team of the last basically 10 years and play cats defensive ball that won them championships.

Its a great backup plan to screw with many many coaches

Tokoto is more than I expected. He is pretty much where Prather was at the same point starting in his NBL career, will only get better.

Agree with your comments on Perths second unit, they looked really sharp especially in defence and I credit that to a lot of playing time during the ore season. Once the first unit start clicking this team is going to look very solid.

The Cats run like a well oiled machine.

Walker and Tokoto have added some athleticism to this team and Cooke has too. I suspect they're going to suffocate a lot of teams and win many games with their opponent scoring sub 70.

Great to see Walker enjoying his new lease on life - with Redhage out and Walker in, it's just not the same watching Perth play. I don't immensely dislike them anymore!

Definite championship favs.

But Conger and Johnson have shown enough that Hawks fans should be upbeat about the season despite being 0-2.

When Tokoto jumps up and down defending inbounds passes, all guys need to do is take a couple steps to the side when he's in the air. Isn't the rule three steps maximum inbounding from an out-of-bounds situation and unlimited steps after a score?

Hawks weaker whenever White and/or AJ on. Coenraad better than last season and definitely needs more time. Works hard, effective shooter and passer and great IQ. Brandt is a surprise for Perth, great improvement and Waxy its so good to see him back in the league and a coach using him well. He was great at Sixers as well but no space with the new style and he was the only one they could cut.

The 'Cats are good but it's frankly stupid to say they're 'the one to beat'. Like don't even go there. Melbourne have showed in one NBL and one NBLxNBA game that they should be

Manu no way

Talent wise If both teams are healthy it's fairly even. United with a better starting 5 and Perth the better bench.

But we're talking about a proven team vs an unproven one. United were 10-8 after Casper arrived last yr.yes, had 10 of 18 in road, plus CG and DA had injuries but...compare to Perth - swept their way to championship.same coach and same formula that's won 3 of last 4 titles

Proven vs unproven- the proven group is favourite for mine.

But wildcats are the team to beat. They are the reigning, defending world champions.

Melbourne didn't make the playoffs last season.

At the very least, you can't say any team is the one to beat considering it's Round 2 and Perth has played both games at home

That's just semantics Manu

Someone can be 'favourite'. If I was going to pick a team right now for winners, I go Perth. United's talent - and performance in OKC- puts them 2nd. But Perth definite #1.

Great signs for Perth that we can still win if Cotton hits one bucket. I wouldn't be too concerned as a Hawks fan after that though. They did a lot right, and Ogilvy for some reason just turns to shit against us (which kinda made me chuckle when I watched the telecast, and Homicide asked "How are you going to stop Ogilvy?") Against the rest of the league he's usually more than solid.

That Conger swat though! :O

Mate. check the rules on this. From a dead ball you are allowed 1 step only. From a score you can run the baseline as much as you want.

I'm happy with the way the Wildcats are looking, but I think we've yet to face a top-4 team, and yet to travel which we know is a big issue.

JP looks very good so far, subject to the above, could develop into a very exciting player.

I am a little worried that our 3rd import is stuggling to get game time behind Waxy, Brandt, Knight, and Wagstaff.
That doesn't mean he's a writeoff, but it does mean he's not of the calibre to have an immediate impact.
When we see how Perth go in the coming month, we'll know whether we have a problem.
