Ouch - very weak team compared to what we usually put up.

No Damien Martin?

You would have to assume it is because of injury or he made himself unavailable.

Australian point guards are a rare breed if Cadee gets to camp. Simply not at the international level. Mitch Norton is a great fit for the Asian game. Strong enough to put up with the style of guard play and smart enough not to lose his head.

Lemanis must really hate Greenwood. He is playing well for the crows, and in an everyone can attend Australian camp. Surely should have got a look in.

Looks like AL is trying to put together a Joey team... Time for a new coach that will know what to do with those athletes that rely on instinct and connections that you can't draw up on a board, they just happen. Will be an interesting journey to watch.

Hugh Greenwood would not even be a slight consideration, he is a footballer now, not a basketballer. Plus, the tournament is during the AFL season.

This team is lacking size, no AJ or DJ which was probably to be expected, but no Jawai either is a bit surprising

Jawai is injured and likely to miss the start of the season

HiNRG - wow, really? *facepalm*

This is a Boomers C or D side but it's Asia, we will win anyway. No cause for concern, except for maybe Lemanis as coach.

What is the full back story though?

Is there a reason why the only two Australians to make the ALL-NBL first team didn't make this squad?

Yes. It's called Asia. We are the #1 team even with a C team.

Damian Martin withdrew himself from consideration due to family commitments, going by Boti's article.

As mentioned above no DJ, AJ, Nate or Damo but no Gibbo either... either he is still injured or you'd wonder if his international career is over?

I really like Brandt but there is no way he should get a look in at international camp. Same with Wagstaff and I'm a Wildcats member.

Really looking forward to seeing Norton blossom as I think he is an outstanding player with heaps of experience and still got lots more of his basketball journey to go.

I'm not confident that we have a team that can dominate on the boards but i look forward to being proven wrong.

It really feels like we are missing young talent in here and I hope Gliddon makes the squad and actually gets aggressive and stays that way for the rest of his career because he's too placid

Gliddon got how many NBA workouts this year? AK-47, if you choose a team with your heart, that's not the best team. Sobey has outperformed him in everything this year, including Euro basketball and NBA camps. Sobey will also most likely play NBA summer league. These two guys are on a different level.

I would personally go with:

Cadee
Goulding
Hodgson
Brandt
Newley

Sobey
Lisch
Andersen
Kickert
Creek

Blanchfield
Jervis

I think we will win this tournament fairly easily, so unless we get into real trouble, I would play Andersen fairly limited minutes (due to his age, don't wear him out) and give Newley and Creek even minutes at SF

NBA workouts are irrelevant as Boomers are playing in Asia which is weak. We will win anyway. Calm down people, learn about how weak the opponents are before over reacting.

The opponents are weak but you wouldn't want to make the potentially hilarious mistake of underestimating them. We could dominate our pool with a SEABL team but we need to at least be considerate of New Zealand, China and the Philippines. Anything less than gold in this tournament would be a monumental failure so we need to actually apply ourselves.

David Andersen Melbourne United
Todd Blanchfield Sydney Kings
Jason Cadee Sydney Kings
Mitch Creek Adelaide 36ers
Chris Goulding Melbourne United
Matt Hodgson Adelaide 36ers
Nic Kay Illawarra Hawks
Kevin Lisch Sydney Kings
Majok Majok Melbourne United
Brad Newley Sydney Kings
Mitch Norton Illawarra Hawks
Nathan Sobey Adelaide 36ers

Given that many of the Asian clubs have their best players in local leagues, this won't be the cake walk many are predicting. Sure we should still go in as favourites alongside nz, but Asian teams are on the improve. Phillipines gave a good account of themselves at last years Olympic qualifying tournament. And NZ will have more of their best players than we will.

I hope the team, coaches and whoever is picking the side don't go in over confident otherwise we could have another repeat of the 2001 debacle.

Cram they are still weak, PH national team especially. Only team to worry about is NZ and *maybe* (at a stretch) China if our C team stinks.

I find it a real DISGRACE that Ogilvy isn't in the team the man can do it all and has great size, a great body made for the international game.

I am SICK of coaches refusing to pick the best players simply because they are not mates with them! UNPROFESSINAL!

Mock, AJ isn't being left out because he isn't mates with the coaches. It goes a long way back!!! AJ made his own bed, now he has to lie in it.

What is the reason AJ isn't picked? This isn't the first time he has been surprisingly left out. Is he seen as not committed or something?
