Good for the league to bring drawcard players back, as long as parity payments filter out to other teams and they can all stay competitive.

is he still a drawcard player though?

Agreed Isaac.

Yes he is injury prone but when playing is an excellent talent. Plays hard, very skilled, plenty of charisma and is a quality human being.

I wouldn't mind seeing this happen at all

Hahaha Isaac...like that is happening (parity payments). That has to be the biggest scam going!

Does the risk outweigh the reward? In his last stint here he was a couple of years younger and played 31 games, missing 25 through injury. He guided Sydney to 7th and 8th respectively. I'm not doubting his talent but I think it is pretty risky.

He's 33 now, about to turn 34. Not too old yet but pretty close to it for an import I would have thought..
I hope we don't pay too much for him if it's true.

Agree on the risk but the difference from 2 years ago is that he wont be forced to be the only go to person (I don't recall there being any other stars on the Sydney team at the time - correct me if I'm wrong). With other legitimate scorers for United in Ware, Goulding & Anderson the defensive focus from the other team would not be on him as much.

Agreed Big Country and this was a big reason as to why I would have loved the Kings to have gotten him back... Able to play the 4 at times and contributes across the board and a huge drawcard off the court as well... He played the full season in Japan and from some highlights was throwing himself around a bit and still held up quite well... I know that the NBL is a level above the Japan league, but still, a couple of freak injuries and you can't blame him for the teams results...

More might be able to be gathered during the Big3 games, but he's still a drawcard for sure...

Would be a good recruit depending on cost. Melbourne will be truly looking good with him and Casper.

Until United actually get some runs on the board and make a GF, as opposed to being mediocre or capitulating dramatically at the end of the season, I won't consider them to be much of a title thread.

Yep - he's still a drawcard IMO. Name recognition plus fun character on- and off-court. And if he's injury prone, that's perfect when he's on someone else's team!

"is a quality human being"

Would a quality human being charge another player with an elbow to the throat whilst they are in mid-air?

That doesn't sound like a hallmark of a "quality human being" to me.

Nonetheless....great player and good for the league.

how dare he stick up for himself after getting cheap-shotted by a random hack!

I don't think the guy calling it Wagstaff's screen a "cheap-shot" is a Perth fan but is definitely a troll.

He's good to have back in the league for sure but I don't think United is the best fit for him if Ware returns. He averaged roughly one field goal attempt every 2 minutes in the NBL and Japan. With Ware being very ball-dominant, trigger-happy at point and Goulding, I can't see him shooting as much. He needs the ball to be great.

United needs more of a 3-and-D at SF to help open up the floor even more for their two perimeter studs. He can shoot the 3 but I don't think he'd qualify as a specialist. IMHO they could probably find a younger, better fit for less money.

He'd be good for the Snakes or Hawks though.

I'm not sure "quality person" is overly valid either. He definitely knows how to project the right public image but he isn't as squeaky clean as people think.

In terms of playing it sounds like a whisper at best. I would be truly surprised if he ended up back in the league. As someone above mentioned they could probably pick up a younger, cheaper option. Someone who can penetrate and open up the floor for Goulding's shooting would be ideal. Very interested to see who they do end up with!
Go United!

I heard he's got a baby on the way, which I'm sure means $$$$ will be what he's chasing and I can't see United having that amount wanted.
Could be wrong and would love to see him back.

How does that follow? It's not like he hasn't earned enough already to make a child a pretty trivial thing financially speaking.

Exactly. He himself has said to the media many times he is set for life financially and just enjoying what he does - playing ball around the world.

Remember he left the NBA to Greece for a bigger salary. It was big news at the time.

sigh... reality and good points getting in the way of a good story, Steve! All very valid points, however I think Chill has averaged that many shots because he's had to and while I agree he's more effective with the ball in his hands, he's great on the boards, a very nice passer as well... Agree that a younger 3 & D player would suit better, especially since Barlow hasn't been retained yet either and they need someone to score from outside when CG goes cold and they keep jacking them up (although I expect them to be different under DV)

It's indeed a great thing to have Childress in the league, but I side with Isaac- not sure I want him on my own team!
