NBL investigating incident with Randle's wife

Illawarra Hawks co-owner James Spenceley has labelled an incident involving the wife of MVP Jerome Randle as "disgusting", as the NBL confirmed it is investigating the matter.

Spenceley confirmed a plate of food had been thrown after full-time in the Hawks' 106-98 victory over Adelaide, sending them into the NBL grand final series, starting on Sunday.

His account, supported by other eye-witness reports who spoke to the Mercury, said a girl, believed to be between the ages of six and eight, was left visibly upset, after being left with food on her.

Hawks import Rotnei Clarke and fellow guard Rhys Martin later comforted the girl, after Randle’s wife Zhordan was escorted from the arena by security guards.

Spenceley said he later confronted Randle in the heated aftermath. “It’s disgusting, how do you do that to a happy young fan at a game?” Spenceley said.

“There was a whole platter of food thrown and she was very vocal, threatening people.

“I confronted Jerome about the behaviour, it wasn’t at length but we spoke about it. Thankfully the little girl was a real trooper and Rotnei and Rhys were there to help clean her up and cheer her up.”

http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/4491159/its-disgusting-plate-of-food-reportedly-thrown-at-hawks-game/

If this is all true and Jerome Randle's wife Zhordan did throw a plate of food at a Hawks fan that was a little girl resulting in Zhordan being escorted from the arena by security and a couple of Hawks players comforting the girl I think we need to make a decision on Randle coming back.

You can't ban his wife from games and expect the player to re-sign but this kind of behaviour is unacceptable.

Boy and to think the amount of stuff is spoken here in regards to Perth behavior. Adelaide has let themselves down in respect to the behavior of Randle talking trash and now his wife. Not a good look.

I thought it wasn't a "little girl" and just a grown woman? Not sure where i heard that but, can anyone confirm? Regardless it's an awful thing to do, but my guess would be that it was in retaliation to the fans and maybe this one in particular giving Randle and his wife shit?

As for "making a decision on bringing Randle back" don't be silly, Randle's wife may have made a mistake, but he is still the best player in the league, and by all means Adelaide will be begging him to come back. You really think teams are gonna opt against signing Randle because of one incident with his wife? Because they wont.

That's just ridiculous, Adelaide haven't "let themselves down".

If Jerome wants to spice things up with comments that are appropriate in respect to the NBL rules, then there's nothing wrong with that.

The issue for him is, it's okay to talk aslong as you back it up with success - for most of the season he has, but this time around it failed and he looked silly for being provocative. Egg on his face, maybe, but that's not bad behaviour and it certainly won't draw the ire of the NBL. As an NBL fan, I think it made for a great narrative and extra interest - even if it made him a villain to some for a week.

Obviously Randle's wife, *if this is true*, makes things super awkward for Adelaide.

This could go three ways: she acts stubborn and petulant about it and the Randles are gone; she is apologetic but it's not enough for Adelaide and the Randles to decide it's worth continuing the relationship; or she is profusely sorry, apologises personally to the person hurt and to the 36ers, Hawks and NBL and gets a suspended disqualification from the NBL pending good behaviour and the Randles hopefully return.

JR on Twitter but using weasel words ...she didn't throw anything at a child.

So does one deduce that (I) she threw something (II) it wasn't aimed at the child.

The Hawks co-owner should be careful with making claims in the online world, better letting the NBL investigate.

This is a claim affecting reputation of an individual which tends to invite libel. Just need to be careful of that.

That picture of giving the finger won't do her any favours, I have to admit this could be an unnecessary speed bump to the 36ers off-season.

I was right near the area in which she threw something, but I didn't see who it hit as it was to a crowded areas behind the Hawks bench. But she definitely threw something and was using poor language and gestures.

Walked passed Zhordan on the way out and there wasn't a security guard near her or the blonde lady she sits with at games. The accused behaviour is absolutely not acceptable if true.

Not acceptable by Randles wife. Should be a year ban for that sort of behaviour.

The way she acted that game with her continuous abuse of Hawks players I think actually fired them up to play better.

I think she thinks she is special because she is married to the MVP and so rules and decency doesn't apply to her.

If she is not banned for next season the Sixers need to move her away from the other teams bench as she obviously can't control her self.

Hood rats will act like hood rats. Overreactions and ridiculous crap like this is common in the US. But you can't treat a pro league like your local park, Zhordan.

I really don't want this to go too far and ruin Randle coming back, but these girlfriends need to tame their behavior. You are the wife/girl of a professional f***ing athlete who have certain standards to uphold. Act like it!

"a girl, believed to be between the ages of six and eight, was left visibly upset, after being left with food on her."

I think the inference is clear, she threw the plate of food, not at the child, but the food went wide and the girl copped some of it.

I think the outcome really depends on how apologetic and contrite Mrs Randle is prepared to be. If she does the right thing, apologises profusely, promises to behave, perhaps Adelaide invite the family back as VIP guests next time the Hawks play there.
If not, I guess Mrs Randle gets moved to the cheap seats.

Depends how much of a crazy cow she is or isn't. For some chicks this could be enough for her to manipulate Randle out of the league. And if she's the type to go around throwing food, well, she sounds like she might just be a problem. It's not something normal, civilized people do.

If its true, that is despicable behavior by a players wife even if the food was thrown at a crowd of spectators and not intended to be directed at a child.

The suitable course of action should be to ban her from attending games next season. If this were to happen i cant see JR sticking around either. Not that he will have a choice in the matter by the sounds of her.

Will be interesting to see the outcome of this.

A few people have said it. Don't punish Randle (player) he did nothing wrong, but, his wife should be treated like any other spectator. Whatever the punishment would be for any paying member of the 36ers if they threw a tray of food at someone should be given to her. VIP or not she should be held to the same standard.

Have been a Swans (AFL) member for a while and last season saw a 15 year member get thrown out for throwing his beer in the air during a Mex Wave...his family said he was then stripped of his membership.

Firstly...I think Spenceley is stretching the truth a fair bit and making some false statements.

There were heated exchanges from both Zhordan & a bunch of Hawks fans.

I have reason to believe her final outburst could be 'race' related.

The victims were not her intended targets and were collateral damage.

She was not escorted out by security, she was walking up the stairs by herself.

Nothing you said contradicts Spenceley's account of events.

Doesn't matter what anyone else did, or whom she was aiming at, throwing a plate of food at another fan is unacceptable, and she shouldn't be allowed in any NBL venue.

Reply #628720 | Report this post

AC

It's pathetic and disgusting behavior, and as a representative member of the 36ers by proxy she should be held accountable and punished accordingly regardless of who the intended target was.

Much like the pisshead who poured his beer on a player last season the league should ban her for the entirety of next season.

If JR doesn't like that and it becomes a reason he doesn't resign then stiff shit, go find another league to waste another year of his career in as father time is ticking and he'll never fulfill his NBA dream.

The issue isn't who she threw the food at, it's the fact she thought it acceptable to throw food at all. I take it she's a grown woman , that behaviour is unacceptable from anyone in any situation.

The question needs to be asked " is this how Adelaide wish to have their supporters behaving?" Add to that Randles behaviour and you can clearly see this is the nature of these people.

Adelaide should certainly not be that reliant on just one player that they overlook a couple who bring them into disrepute.
Their are plenty of other players to be found that know how to behave and also by setting an example they may ensure the players family also bring their manners with them.

Their is absolutely no excuse for behaving in this manner

That's always the excuse. If a black person does something stupid they can always rely on saying that someone said or did something racist, whether or not there is any evidence of it. Pull out the race card and get out of jail free.

I think the NBL should try to get an apology for the girl from Zhordan, but any punishment would probably jeopardize him coming back to Adelaide. Fact of the matter is the league does need heroes and villians to stay interesting. And outside of Adelaide, Jerome is a villan and also a great player. They should be putting retaining him first above any arbitrary punishment.

He might've been appalled and I suspect he was as Spenceley probably would've mentioned it if he was just as belligerent as his wife as it would've further validated his opinion of the bad behaviour on show.

Regardless even if it's likely Randle was appalled by it she is his wife and if she says she's not coming back here for whatever reason it would be a safe bet he wouldn't be coming back either.

The whole thing puts the Sixers in a very difficult position as that behaviour from a regular person would probably result in a 12 month if not life-time ban from the arena. If they as assumed want to re-sign Randle that can't happen obviously.

Made even more difficult now that the NBL is involved so they will need to be seen to be doing the right thing too so a slap on the wrist is unlikely to be deemed suitable especially after making an example of a player for bad behaviour towards the refs.

Why was she sitting behind the Hawks bench anyway? Player families are usually behind the 36ers bench, and I've seen here there before. She's definitely a passionate supporter, particularly of her husbands game and she's not afraid to stand up and throw some words out there. To be sitting in or near a group of Hawks supporters is a volatile situation at best, especially given her husbands already inflammatory comments about the Illawarra team. The whole situation is really bizarre and at the end of the day, throwing stuff...be it food or whatever is just not on.
