Is this just a rumour or is there any chance of confirmation. Hey its great news if it comes about. It is about time that we made basketball careers more attrractive for our girls. Netball is the enemy and we must improve basketball as an alternative for girls and basketball as a whole will benefit!

It's straight from the horse's mouth (Sorry Belly, it's just an expression) so it's not really a rumour.

I doubt there is a strong enough pool of girls to warrent this, the best female juniors in this state will either be at the institute or already part of the lightning, there isnt much talent after that

Kids are developed in sasi, the good ones get places, not enough girls are playing in the targeted age bracket for the Academy, hence why it went from under 20's to under 21's so there wouldnt be great enough numbers to warrant an academy

good on Belly for trying to help basketball, but as its already been mentioned...

The difference IMO between boys and girls as basketballers is that boys take basketball seriously for longer. There is more of a drop off of girls through 16's, 18's and 20/21's. Girls who can play go to SASI, most others drop out, unlike the boys where they play for a lot longer, and late bloomers emerge.

I think the academy was set up to bridge the gap between ABL and Sixers. For the womens, i don't think there is big enough gap to warrant the academy.

After all that though, i really do applaud Belly for being pro-active.
