why do big men take numbers 50-55

dont know but it seems that alot of the centres/pf's(big men) in basketball like to wear the numbers between 50 and 55.dunno why.it might sound stupid but thats ok.i think undersized pf wears number 50.maybe because there were no other numbers left so he recieved a hack number.

interesting to hear your opinions??

traditionally, when a team would buy a set of uniforms the sizing would be consistent with the numbers. I.e. the smallest singlets being 4 and the biggest being 15.

Perhaps the reason is derived from this traditional approach.

On the contrary Mr Hamma, Cheezeburger is no longer a bballer and therefore is a massive tool. Killa occassionally plays big in your team because your ex-big man...the cheeze himself, quit.

Whereas I am a PG, and sticking to the rule, wear #4, the smallest number possible.

I know what you're thinking, how can a PG have that kind of dictionary of post moves, but its ok cause I've had some good teachers along the way. (Kevin McCale, Undersized PF and Hakeem the dream)

How's this theory.

Big guys are usually invited to try out a little later in junior basketball (when a club sees that 6 foot twelve year old bouncing the ball on his foot, then tripping over trying to retrieve it) and by this time all the quick little guys have taken the popular numbers (4-15, 20-25, magic johnson's 32). So the big guy, wanting to relate to his smaller yet more exciting peers thinks of the man who he would like to someday play like and maybe even look like, The Admiral. If however this number is taken they will settle for the closest thing (51-55).
