Here is a full story- with our Brad getting a good wrap:
The Boomers have completed a sweep of the Oceania series in New Zealand, beating the Tall Blacks 91-80 in the third and final game.
The Australians had already secured top seeding for Oceania for the 2006 World Championships after winning the second game of the series on Saturday in Auckland.
"Saturday's win was a real relief, but this was the most gratifying win of the series," Boomers coach Brian Goorjian said. "This is the future."
Star trio, CJ Bruton, Matthew Nielsen and Glen Saville all sat out the final match after pulling up sore.
But that just left room for 19-year-old Brad Newley to step up and top score with 22 points. Centre David Andersen also finished with 22 and another talented youngster Mark Worthington added 18.
Guard Phill Jones led the Tall Blacks with 16 points and skipper Pero Cameron added 15.
Newley, the 2005 Philips Championship Rookie of the Year, joined the Boomers straight from the U21 World Championships in Argentina where the Crocs finished fourth.
"I was excited about adding the young guys to our squad this year and was disappointed they were not able to play with us because of the U21 Worlds," Goorjian said.
"So it was great to be able to add Newley to the team for this series, and to see what he is going to add for the Commonwealth Games and the World Champs next year is really exciting."
Playing for pride only, the Tall Blacks came out firing and kept the Australians at bay in the first half.
But foul trouble for Mark Dickel, Cameron and Dillon Boucher halted the Tall Blacks' run.
A brilliant 30-point third quarter for Australia set up the win and the clean sweep.
The Boomers will now return home to play in the 2005-06 NBL season or leagues in Europe. They will not play together again until the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March.
