What are we basing it on? Historical, year to date?
If you're talking about this year, we need to wait and see.
I'd probably give DD a failing grade so far, but lets wait and see if he is able to pull his team together.

DD bottom for not being able to get his best out of a strong roster.
Why the hate for Henare? Breakers are looking ominous again.

Just for this season so far the rankings look a little different to career..
Fearne
Lemanis
Gleeson
Gaze
Henare
Bevo
Wright
DD
Dear god to those who have Wright ahead of Gaze.
Gleeson is a flog but he has two rings... Does that count for anything.
That inbounds play for Prather alone suggests he actually has some sort of coaching ability.

Doesn't really matter whether you talk career to date, or season to date, Gaze can't be rated.
Careerwise he's done nothing, and then how do you rate somebody with such a star-studded lineup, and backed by Vickerman?
I would go something like:
Lemannis
Beveridge
Gleeson
Fearne
Wright
Henare
DD
Gaze
But ask me again at the end of the season

Gaze could win the title with a team of scrubs and you'd still find a reason to think he's a terrible coach.
One good 'quantitative' way of looking at this is how well a team goes in their first offensive possession after timeout situations or first offensive possession of the quarter, as these is a possessions when a coach probably can have their biggest impact on the game. Looking at the numbers this season (percentage of these possessions ending in points) Hoops favorite DD actually comes out pretty well:
Melbourne (54.3%)
New Zealand (47.1%)
Sydney (46.8%)
Perth (44.9%)
Cairns (37.5%)
Adelaide (35.9%)
Brisbane (33.3%)
Illawarra (27.4%)
But the real test is how this differs to the percentage of possessions that usually end in scoring for the team. With this in mind, DD drops to the bottom - and by a large margin:
Illawarra (+16%)
Adelaide (+8.4%)
Brisbane (+8.2%)
Cairns (+2.5%)
Sydney (-2.5%)
Perth (-3.5%)
New Zealand (-4.4%)
Melbourne (-13.0%)

Has DD done enough to get off the bottom, or is having Ware on board enough to spare him embarrassment?

How can you rate Gaze ahead of everyone bar DD. Gaze was Australia's greatest player but he is definitely not a coach. He should stick to being a commentator. He is fortunate to have Dean assisting him and a $2-$2.5m budget
1 lemanis
2 bevo
3 - fearne
4 gleeson
5 gaze
6 henare
7 wright
8 dd

What I'd be interested in are the rankings for the coaches who are either not in the NBL , or are sitting as assistant coaches, im not certain how many in the list below have officially retired, I know that hurley was very active in the last boomers Olympic campaign. So - in no particular order , except I am filling in a suggested last 2 spots
Im interested in who you think would perform next season, rather than comparing historical performances.
Shawn Dennis
Gordie Mcleod
P Smyth
Dean Vickerman
Al Westover
Adrian Hurley
Brian Goorjian
Brendan Joyce ( should be available again soon)
Frank Arsego
Tab Baldwin (no NBL history I know)

The next group of young coaches that will impact Australian Basketball are Caporn, O'Loughlin and Molloy.
