Brisbane out Melbourne tigers women in. Player movement in WSEABL is on an all time high, people will be surprised as some high profile SEABL veterans playing WNBL are going to take the winter off. The league will look vastly different. Men's won't see much change but the influx of new imports in the league will make for an even more athletic league
Chargers have a new President, new board to come next month and massive player changes on the way.
New venue to be rumoured as well.

Is their a limit to who many WNBL/NBL players a SEABL team can have, you look at Rangers WNBL and 90% of their team made up the same percentage of their SEABL team, Granted they don't bring in imports for the women's SEABL like other teams do, but just wondering is their any restrictions placed on situations like that. Ballarat Rush were basically the bulk of Bendigos WNBL group too.

2 restricted players.. that's 20 mpg in WNBL/NBL or imports.. if you play 150 games for a team you are no longer restricted no matter how many minutes you log at NBL/WNBL

Rangers SEABL steam are WNBL starters or at least role players, Ballarat's SEABL is full of Bendigo's WNBL side that don't get much of a run, big difference.
hobart expected to announce on friday that the derwent entertainment center will be the new home game venue for 2017!
strangely also expected to announce Cam Bennerman is returning in an import role :/

Wow Bennerman to return. Rush will be looking over his shoulder.
Chargers AGM is next Monday. DEC on the cards and Bennerman won't be signed.
one of the radio stations has suggested both change of venue and bennerman are a done deal...so will be interesting to see what comes of the meeting/announcement...
Interesting bennermans social media is flooded with photos in and around Hobart recently including fairly intense solo training sessions at warrane...
Bennerman has been in Hobart now for several months. His g/f lives there and he is a physical specimen.
Hobart will surprise with their side next season. A far different look from previous years.

Shame so few take any interest in the seabl.
Miners resign Moller, who was pursued by MtGambier.
Thunder have announced 2 new imports. Expect Jackson to join Dandenong.
2 new womens teams.
Some of the seabl games are as good as Nbl. Ballarat has signed 2 imports plus Moller, who I here had a few clubs interested plus one across the Tasman.
It's strange or more correctly I'm probably strange but I sometimes prefer vfl to afl and seabl to Nbl:)
Moller is an excellent signing. He was impressive last season with the Miners. Johnson will be a big loss for Bendigo, outstanding defender. Anyone heard what Dandenong is doing? Have Bendigo got Kendle again? What about Earnest Ross, Booker? Supercats?
Olly Bailey , Booker I heard had gone to South America, I believe earnest Ross was heading to Italy, not certain how accurate this is though.
The miners have signed their two imports none of the above will be back this season unless things change quickly you would think.
Booker I heard was on a lot of money. How long the contract would last was a different story.

My mail is Kendle back to Bendigo and Garrett Jackson to Dandenong.
http://supercats.com.au/from-stingray-to-supercat/
After four years with the Corio Bay Stingrays, 2 Championships and 2 Runners Up's Ma’alo Hicks has made the move back to SEABL and will become a Geelong Supercat in 2017. The 6’9″ Power Forward has previously played SEABL for the Nunawading Spectres in their Championship side in 2011, along with winning a Championship with Darebin in the BigV. Hicks also has been the dominate Forward in the GBL for many years, being named in the GBL Allstar 5 in 2016.
When asked of his signing, Supercats Head Coach Leon O’Neill said "Hicks is a versatile big man who is capable of playing at both Centre and Power Forward. He brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record as a winner."
“He will be called upon to score in a number of ways as well as guarding opposition forwards and centres and contributing to our high tempo style of play on the glass and in the way he uses his athleticism at both ends of the floor.”
Ma’alo is the first real change in the Supercats line up for 2017, with 8 of last years 11 Australian players confirmed.
Hick’s signing takes the SEABL Roster to 9, with 2 Imports to be named in the near future and just one spot left to fill.

Booker is a great player deserves a great contract. Booker, Ross and Ollie bailey were the Ballarat team. Sad to hear that they won't be returning!
Ballarat clearly treating the imports poorly !
Also looks like the Ballarat rush will be loosing a few local players, you start to think what's going on at the club. The Bendigo stream train must be on full stream ahead.
Mise well start calling them the Ballarat spirit or Bendigo rush.
If as you say that those Ballarat imports were so good why didn't they even make the finals. Basketball requires more than three people having there own ball.
Perhaps if they had better players on their side they would? Perhaps if management didn't control everything they would
Aren't most of those Bendigo players that play for Rush in SEABL Ballarat players that ended up AT Bendigo for WNBL anyway

The roster at Geelong Men is shaping up well for the coming season with the imports returning and a team that knows each other well set to make a huge run at the finals:
Geelong Advertiser December 15th -
STAR import DeMarcus Gatlin has turned down offers from overseas clubs to return to the Geelong Supercats for a second season.
The 24-year-old is confident the Supercats have the weaponry to again challenge for the championship, spurred on by the heartbreaking semi-final loss to Albury Wodonga.
The energetic Gatlin made headlines in his first season at the club for a highlights reel full of flair after arriving from Houston, Texas.
Confirmation of his return comes after the Supercats secured Ma'alo Hicks from the Corio Bay Stingrays and re-signed 300-game stalwarts Nathan Herbert, Jamie Medved and Nick Owusu.
"The decision was very easy for me, I felt like we had unfinished business to take care of as a team," Gatlin told the Geelong Advertiser.
“I had a couple of offers to play in Europe but I chose to take some time off and spend a few months at home with family.
“I think our chances of winning a championship this year are very high.”
Unlike some imports who bounce between clubs across the world from season to season, Gatlin has spent recent months with his feet up, opting to spend time with his family and refine his game away from competition.
“We are bringing back pretty much the same team, but we made a few tweaks to the team that will hopefully get us over the hump,” he said.
“Plus I feel like we all really enjoy playing for each other.”

^^^ same issue..copy and paste..damn mercury newspaper
HOBART'S second import for the SEABL season is set to arrive next week fresh from a training stint in the NBA D-League — and he’s no stranger to Tasmania.
The Mercury can reveal American Rob Heyer will join Chris Whitehead as the two imports for the men’s program, helping form a strong starting unit including Mathang Muo, with locals Tiri Masunda and Dwayne Radcliffe likely to fill the one and five spots.
Heyer recently received an invite to train with the Los Angeles D-Fenders — the affiliate to the LA Lakers — in the NBA D-League and is believed to have been offered a contract for the remainder of the season.
However he has decided to return to Tasmania to further bolster his credentials in the best competition in the country outside of the NBL.
The former Boise State guard-forward spent 2016 with Latrobe in the NWBU, where he averaged 26.4 points, 15 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals a match.
Heyer was the only Bronco to play in all 34 College games in his senior year in 2015, helping Boise State reach the NCAA Tournament as an at-large selection for the second time in school history.
The 190cm 24-year-old took a team-high 14 charges in addition to ranking third on the team in rebounds (107) and second for offensive boards (43).
Lewis Thomas dunks during his days at Western Oregon.
Heyer’s signing completes the interstate and overseas additions for coach Anthony Stewart, who has also secured English-born talented Australian forward Lewis Thomas.
Born in Nottingham, the 203cm, 100kg big man spent his final two years in America with Western Oregon, starting in all 30 games in his senior year and averaging 7.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.
A product of the AIS, Thomas is currently playing with Scottish club Glascow in the British Basketball League, and will not arrive in Australia until early May and is expected to miss at least the first six matches.
A former NBL captain is likely to fill Thomas’ spot for the early season games, with an announcement expected soon.
Hobart kicks off its 2017 SEABL season against the North-West Thunder on March 25 at the Derwent Entertainment Centre
Where is Glascow? Expect a Kings player to fill the gap.

Former NBL MVP? Narrows it down a bit as most of the recent MVP's have been imports.
Kevin Lisch or Kirk Penney are the only recent MVP's that could play as unrestricted players.
The most recent Australian MVP's before those two are Sam Mackinnon and Chris Anstey.
If Anon above is right then it rules Lisch and Penney out as I don't think either of them have played SEABL before.
CJ Bruton maybe? Maybe they're talking club MVP not league MVP?
Bringing someone in for three or four games might help fill seats but it can't be good for team chemistry. Good on them for trying something. Hope it works for them.

Heard the playing group didn't come to play and he had a higher demand on them than what the players were willing.
No doubt a lot of people will jump on him.
I did hear the chairman had tried to talk him out of leaving. His better as a junior coach
Rush 0. Good guys 2. Suggestions that the players were not up to his standards are laughable. Players wanted him out and they achieved that. Texts from the coach in the wee small hours to players are unacceptable. If the Chairman tried to talk him out of it, sack him too. Rush shouldn't even coach kids. DOC.
No that's not director of coaching.
"There's been a growing concern about the bringing together of the playing group and the coach, and we are concerned about the impact that might have on the on-court performance." Torns chairwoman Jane Finlay said.

What on earth does that mean!?
More of the non story.
http://www.examiner.com.au/story/4628556/torn-between-stories/?cs=12
If due diligence had been done he would never have been hired in the first place.
whatever happened to background checks?
one phone call to the hobart chargers or speaking to any one of the playing group would have quickly crossed Rush from the potential coach list
From the article "Finlay said he had all the credentials to take the club forward and had trumped national and international interest in the position." That's the dumbest quote I have read in a long time. It speaks poorly of everyone else that applied for the position and the Torns process's to hire Rush. More like Rush is here in our backyard and we will give him a crack. Rush is flat out coaching kids and it's now been proved twice he is incapable of coaching adults.
He can have more family time. He won't be getting a head coaching job with adults again that's for sure.
"There has been growing recognition that the playing group and head coach are finding it difficult to be on the same page," was the closest thing to an explanation provided."
PLayers 1 Rush still zero.
"whatever happened to background checks?"
Launceston and Hobart aren't on speaking terms :P
Launceston Men haven't existed for years. No reason not to at least ask even unofficially. More fool them. It was always going to end in tears. Rush gets a pay out because he cant coach at that level because the Torns didn't do their homework. It wasn't that long ago they were broke. No wonder.

I'll state I've played for Rush and since then moved on to in leagues around Australia.
Ben struggles with the people skills to coach seniors, as for doing back ground chargers announced the travel was the only reason for not bringing him back. Now I know a lot of there players personally and they say he was hard to deal with but nothing too bad about him. So all this bashing is coming from people who haven't coached at this level, if you have apply for the Torns position.
Rush X's and O's are strong, I look at him as a good assistant coach and he did well in his first stints as a development officer
Rest assured he was never going to be invited back to Hobart With no crowds turning up to watch him get techs from the sidelines, even an ejection from the one game and losing a game and scoring 51 points in that game his X's and O's may be great. However people skills, player communication and a non bullying style of coach is what was needed. Angry man. Not a petulant coach who did no pre season, minimal appearances at training and a coach who had no skills in dealing with adults.
That is abundantly clear in the Torns case too. However they have shut up shop about that.
The players were going to walk if he continued on as their coach.
Match of the round should be the Braves Vs Hobart.
After bolting out of the gates the Hobart team with 4 wins at home hit the road last weekend and came up empty. Losing a close one in Albury by 3 the Chargers managed to lose in 2 x OT Vs Kilsyth and allow the Cobras to run away with the game by 9.
Braves on the other hand are mid range in the South (4-4) and Harvey will have a point to prove against his old club and Anthony Stewart. 2pm Tip Off Sunday at the DEC is a first in Hobart.

"The Chargers could be in line for an unexpected boost with Lewis Thomas a possibility of making his club debut earlier than anticipated.
British-born Thomas wasn't expected to be available until at least the end of the month, but with his current side the Glasgow Rocks knocked out of the British Basketball League finals on Monday he could suit up sooner."

"The Telstra Hobart Chargers welcome today's announcement by Hon. Elise Archer MP that the government will provide $105,000 to the Club to deliver 350 school based clinics to 8,000 southern Tasmanian school aged children."
So do the NW Thunder get the same grant for northern Tas kids?
The bulk has been apportioned to the Chargers. This season they have conducted clinics involving 8000+ kids already. Ongoing funding will ensure more kids are seen and the prospects to develop these kids into basketball converts if huge.
Even in the Devils days the number of kids and clinics done was never as high as these numbers.
More southern bias. North has the same population base yet south gets the bulk of money? Fcking Hobart.

Chargers men mid season favourites for the Finals.
Hobart (9-3)
"Easily the most efficient offensive team this season, Hobart are averaging 98.8 points per game and have cracked 110 points three times already in 2017. Four players are recording 15+ points per contest, led by Mathiang Muo whose 24.8 points at 47% shooting and 42% three-point shooting have him installed as an MVP candidate. The Chargers have also done well to retain the services of Tommy Garlepp (23.7 points, 6.7 rebounds) while Rob Heyer and Chris Whitehead are combining for 30.1 points and 6.9 assists. Lewis Thomas has only played five games and will add another weapon to their arsenal as Hobart aim to reach their first Grand Final since 2010. They have made the most of a heavy home schedule through the first half of the year with a 7-1 record at the Derwent Entertainment Centre but the pressure will be on out of the break with just four more games at home."
Muo certainly clearly MVP favourite at this stage. Plus a distinct possibility of a spot on the Kings roster.
No one interested in seabl it seems. Chargers season coming to a head this weekend. Bendigo and Ballarat away. True test for them.
so are the mid season favourites for the Gf hobart and Mt Gambier??? would pretty impresive for mt gambier to make 5 in a row if it happens.
i dont think it is then daylight. nunawading and geelong will especially make it tough for mt gambier to get through their conference. i think bendigo will be a danger to hobart, they will put a strong back end of season together, only need to look at what they did to mt gambier to realise that they can not only beat but destroy any team on their night,
Chargers men drop a game to Bendigo by 2 points in a nail biter. Always an ugly arm wrestle of a game the home crowd helped the Braves get over the line.
Back to back losses for Hobart, Moller is a monster at both ends.
3 flops and 2 techs isn't the reason at all. Were you at the game? I bet No way. If you were there clearly you don't what actually transpired.
Refs unable to adjust to reffing NBL players.
Garlepp to a charge and was warned after he disputed the call. It was a clear charge and he didn't flop as that would require him hitting the floor. He didn't. 2nd call was similar but he did take a legitimate charge and was knocked to the ground in the process. he again disputed the call and was ejected.
Todd Spain was ok but the other 2 simply weren't up to it. Top of the table clash deserved top of the table refs.
Chargers weren't up to it. Muo wasn't playing well and after the arm wrestle the night before they were clearly tired. Their travel arrangements were to blame as well but that's another story.
Braves lose, Bandits drop 2 and the Specs lose. WOW.

Good read.
Garrett Jackson played for Dandenong tonight? Back for a one off or for the regular?
Mt gambier so good, can't see anyone beating them when it counts.
Yes it will be an interesting matchup when The Mount plays Hobart again on July 28. ;)
