United vs Bullets, 20/10/16
Who wins the Boomer Battle?
The back story. Last week Bevo was generous to his players by refusing to throw them under the bus at his press conference, instead lumping praise on Blanchfield for his shooting.
In reality, Illawarra provided great offense at the defensive end last week, with a lot of work left to do in perfecting their Zone D. Melbourne turned it inside out with crisp passing, giving Toddy a bunch of clear looks from the corners. Brisbane, however, should make no such mistakes.
It remains to be seen whether the highly fancied UTD have a plan B, after their 8/38 effort from 3 resulted in a shock home loss to the 36ers, then the hot Toddy led them to a stunning 16/23 from outside en route to a comfortable win over the Hawks, who themselves shot poorly. Perhaps David Andersen needs to become a bit more like Rio Dave if this squad is to lift the trophy.
Meanwhile Bullets hadn't done a thing wrong this season, until late in last week’s game when Randle reminded us that he’s....in the words of Tina Turner, Simply the Best. The Bullets fearsome frontcourt presents a challenge for the great overlooked Majok Majok- who’s 5th in the league in rebounds despite playing 18 minutes a game- and Goggle Master Williams, who’s yet to impress in limited time.
This game will tell us plenty about both teams. Can United handle the Bullets on the inside? Or will they be manhandled like they were in the semi finals? Are the Bullets for real- do they have the fire power to run with the heavy artillery on Melbourne’s roster?
United by 8.
