U17 Men's thread

Thoughts so far?

Knew Canada would be a tough first game but didn't expect get a beat down but the Chinese. Free throws certainly aren't helping. Our starting backcourt seems to be the shortest and lightest of any other team.

Did anyone else have problems watching the live stream against China?

I tried for an hour and got nothing.

Strange because the game against Canada worked perfectly

if they make it into 1/4s, I'll be surprised.

From what I have seen, Froling and Fullarton are the two class players.

Men are through to round of 16 after dispatching Finland by 15 points. Needed to win by 13p or more to finish 3rd in group and avoid possible match-up with team USA until the gold medal game (if we get there).

We next face Bosnia and Herzegovina. They boast tournament leading scorer Dzanan Musa who has been scorching opponents for 29 points per game.

Australia work hard for win over Finland at U17 World Championships

Great to see the boys get that win, hope their confidence stays with them in the first final.

Fantastic to see them get a win. Will do their confidence the world of good.

It would appear the F's (Froling & Fullarton) are having a good tournament to date, whilst the game report card of some other seems to have been already marked by the coaching staff.

Just goes to show the difference in level between Nationals and Worlds.

Let's hope they get over Boznia Herzegovina (BIH).

To move forwared they need to improve drastically in the shooting % across FG's, 3's and especially FT's.

After BIH, tough games to follow, probably Spain, then either Turkey or Canada in order to reach the final.

Why hasn't Dent been asked to shoot more 3's? He was clearly the best 3pt shooter in this years U18 Nationals, 19/45 - 42%.

Also, maybe need to try McDonald as a SG to add to the 3pt shooting depth. Of the kids in this team he had the 2nd best 3pt shooting % 14/40 - 35% at U18 Nationals.

IMHO, Dent & Macdonald are not shooting it anywhere near enough. Its simple, if you don't shoot - you don't score.

Maybe a team tactic to date, perhaps they'll unleash them from here?

Go Aussies!

I wish the boys well.

I know it is difficult to compare different generations and any stat based comparison is questionable, but an examination of the National's stats between this and the last U17 Aus team would seem to indicate they are not as proficient offensively as the 2014 team.

2016 team had 7 players average >17ppg
2014 team had 1 player average >17ppg

2014 team had 8 players with a 3pt% >30% & 5 >35%
2016 team had 5 players with a 3pt% >30% & 2 >35%

2014 team Total FG% 51%
2106 team Total FG% 41%

2014 team 2P FG% 56%
2106 team 2P FG% 45%

So, for me, they need to shoot it a lot more as their averages are lower. Hopefully more shots = more pts

Bear, is a round of 16 game where everyone plays a final?

Round of 16 is where the top 8 and bottom 8 get separated in Pool crossover games.

So everyone has the chance to progress to the top 8 (1 to 8) if they win. Lose and you are fighting for 9 to 16.

1st in one pool, plays 4th in another pool, 2nd plays 3rd, etc.

To stay in Medal contention you have to win every game from and including, the Round of 16.

58 to 96 did not expect that kind of a defeat. Either way great experience and a couple of future stars in the team.

U17 mens
2012 2nd, 2014 2nd, 2016 (7/8), 2018?

I think we will have a really good group next time round.

Great effort by the boys...
Not sure any players would make u19s next year though, Maybe fullarton.
Too much talent in that 98 born lot.

Tough result for everyone, however they should be proud and get behind the huge success of the girls.
