Brian Conklin Elbow Saga III -Attack of the Pirate

Looks like Brian Conklin hasn't learned anything from his time in the NBL. First Martin, then Creek....now Renaldo. Is this guy for real or what.

http://www.bsnpr.com/noticias/detalles.asp?r=10097#.VvUAyBJ95nZ

"SAN JUAN - The front of the Quebradillas Piratas, Brian Conklin, received a game suspension and a fine of $ 1,500 for the assault committed on Renaldo Balkman in party held on Tuesday, March 15th. The tournament director, Alfredo Morales, he reviewed all the visual evidence from several angles and could see Conklin threw an elbow backwards and landed on the head of Balkman causing the player to fall to the ground and lost consciousness. This sanction is automatic character and not subject to appeal as it is expressed in the Tournament Rules. The player will fulfill the suspension for the game this Saturday in San Germán and pay the fine on or before returning to court next Mondays."

At this point FIBA should probably be stepping in.

This guy has got no business being on a basketball court.

Once, accident.
Second, some benefit of the doubt.
3 times, guy should be banned for quite some time.
It's been like 6 months and he's injured 3 players by throwing elbows. Bloke doesn't belong on a basketball court.

It's not like the 3 incidents have been "just contact" , there's been 2 concussions and one broken jaw. You have to start putting the safety of the players in your league first. This guy deserves a lengthy ban to either retrain his elbow movements or get an attitude adjustment.

Elbow a Wildcat: "It was an accident and Gleeson is a Flog"
Elbow somebody else: "Guy should be banned for life."

Probably sounds like a stupid question, but could FIBA ban Conklin from playing professional basketball for a certain amount of time? (e.g a month)

I don't think they will or should, but if it continues, is something like that possible?

Train, in that vision Conklin clearly slipped on the flooring, no way was that intentional.

Yep. Totally deliberate. An unnatural act/non-basketball act.

If you're trying to create space you push away slightly but you don't swing arms and you certainly don't swing them high like Conklin did.

At least this time he looked like he showed remorse, immediately checking on the guy and helping him off court?

His arms were swinging all over the place as he was running not just on the one that connected, on the step before that he did the same thing and his other arm was extending out too. It mightn't be deliberate but he's really got to get more control of his limbs.

While I do feel sad for him, once was a player, but has now digressed into an on court thug.

He plays recklessly and seems to have lost his ability to dominate, so relies on brute force and strength.

While strong players are not a problem, those who are reckless are, therefore IMHO he should no be playing this game...

At all!

Not quite just a thug, he's having a good season in PR, averaging 16 & 7 and had 29 & 9 a couple of weeks ago.

Is that 29 points and 9 elbows ? Or the other way around ;)

Clearly Balkman is playing physical and trying to hold Conk a bit. Tough shit if he cops an elbow. None of you would watch basketball even 10 years ago with the way you're carrying on lol

Ricey's all time starting five:

Ron Artest
Dennis Rodman
Rasheed Wallace
Bruce Bowen

& some guy called Conklin

Dazz thats the shortest post youve ever made yet just as annoying! This was a alot more obvious than his past incidents in the NBL. And Im a 36er fan, so no biased view points here. Screw loose, too many times similar things have happened for it to be a coincident.

No, and that's the joke of it.
As I said right back at the start, the guy has developed a habit of throwing his arms, and its careless & reckless.
Everyone defended him, because, lets be honest, he hit a Wildcat, and the haters couldn't wait to excuse him.
Now those same people are calling for FIBA to step in and ban him?!?!?
It's the same problem. There was nothing malicious in the Damo hit, there was nothing malicious in this one. He needs to curb his frustration or whatever is causing it, and find some way to train himself out of the arm waiving. It should have been dealt with properly the first time, but it wasn't and the NBL got egg on their face, and probably pushed TVL to dump him.
Nothing's changed, still needs to be addressed.

There was an Aussie Hoopla article labelling him a careless jerk a few months ago, and many in the basketball community denounced it and it's writer.

Funny how true it all rings now, after 3 more assaults and a bunch of injured basketball players.

The guy is a jerk.

Everyone defended him, the first time, because, it was the first time it had happened.
You can give someone the benefit of the doubt on an isolated incident.
No one is defending him anymore because it's happened 2 more times. That takes if from being accidental to either intentional or grossly reckless.
People defending him the first time had absolutely nothing to do with what jersey the guy he hit was wearing, it had everything to do with the fact that it hadn't happened before, and appeared to be an accident.
All 3 of these incidents, taken in isolation, would get the same response. But coupled together and you can't excuse it.
