Vic metro girls to win with 5 big girls approx (6'2, 6'3, 6'3, 6'4, 6'5) and imo the best pg in the age group.

Qld north boys to win with 6'9-6'10 froling and runnalls up front.

I am looking forward to the championships. Am wondering though about the costs. Do all kids from all states/territories pay the same? Are best deals/specials sought on flights and accommodation?

Reply #583807 | Report this post

I've been told everyone pays the same - even host states - so cost per athlete is equalised. Not sure how that is done in practice though.

Queensland South have listed 5 players 200CM or taller, I can't recall a roster that big across an under 18 Nationals team.

NSW Country still going small-ball, but it hasn't stopped them doing well in recent years.

This is the men's teams by the way :)

Wish I could get there, probably not this year but will be following the livestats, hoping that a team wearing white can win some games and sadly disappointed again that NZ are not participating...

Nationals are a non event until semi finals:

In pool A of women's you will have NSW Country, VIC Country & SA Metro battling for a place.

In pool B you will have Vic Metro & QLD South as the two qualifiers.

So, most likely scenario could be Vic Metro V QLD South meeting in the final as they both look stronger than any team from pool A.

Men's?

Actually, I think ACT women are a real show to finish top 2 in pool A.

I don't know. There is really only 1 strong PG in the entire age group across the country, and she is shoot first in mentality. Nearly all of them are looking to create their own shots first. Great opportunity for a facilitator PG to make a national team but don't think there is one in this age group.

The u17 draw for June's world champs is on in 6 hrs.

Gonna be a tough tournament for the men I think. Not sure we will make the top 3.

Best u17 womens team we've had in a while?. hopefully better than 5th this time.

Oceania is like a poor domestic competition so needs to be discounted.

How the teams compare against the US, European & Eastern European teams is really hard to assess.

Often the players are attributed with wins and losses. In the women's today Vic Metro were embarrassing completely out coached by Queensland South.

Great job Queenslanders!

That is so offensive to the SA team who unfortunately are in a team system that is all about showcasing a few and creating for them. Many hustled and gave everything but the glory goes to the few whos effort frankly was less than impressive apart from shooting. The stats don't paint the right picture and it saddens me to see what is happening within the group. Todays loss was on the coaches and lack of hustle from the 2 tallest on the court watching the smalls fight it out and provide the defensive presence necessary. Clearly there is a group on court who look for each to their own advantage and at the expence of the best option for the team. This is gold medal winning SA team from 16 nationals so an honest look at what it going in is required to save face for the rest of the tournament. Teams don't win championships off the back of the few, it takes an entire team and respect for all. Lets hope they can sort it out and bring everyone in to the game offensively and get some ball movement and effort from the bigs under the basket. 2 Rebounds from the tallest on court is not up to scratch when high minutes are played.

Lacking 1 c and another quality pg. a plethora of Sgs and sfs though...

This was the Oceania squad.
Shelley/cubillo
Simmons/McLean/George
Rowe/Simons/mole
Pizzey/Cochrane
Magbegor/mcspadden

Would you make changes?

Without naming names... I'd make at least 4
I wouldn't guarantee an u17 spot just Because you go to the Coe.

Same for men's.. Few changes I can see..
Dent/zunic
Elkaz/bines/mudronja
Fullarton/Starr
johns/Griffiths/fakira
Froling/Colina

What an absolutely disgraceful thing to say, these are young women, to comment on anyone's appearance is a pathetic attempt , you should be ashamed of yourself
