WNBL and SEABL under BA

Has BA actually done anything positive since taking over these leagues?

SEABL
Live streaming and all other content (video previews, etc) got worse or went missing.

WNBL
Put out a press release every few months saying "TV deal imminent".

Put out a crappy tweet every now and then saying they 'are aware of" whatever incident has occurred (blackface/betting).

They helped save SEQ, although its looks like they didn't do the due diligence required in giving out a licence. eg asking why Logan just failed and what is the difference here?

Looks like they are also trying to own and monetize the success of the Opals and Boomers, although that will likely backfire as they will be asking professionals to commit to playing too many games.

Hopefully both of these leagues can get out from BA before they die a slow death.

BA is basically a collection of public servants showcased by the Kristina Keneally episode. Go figure.

SEABL has gone backwards under BA.The clubs are holding the comp together and keeping it strong.WNBL has no TV deal and the corporate partners must be wondering where the value is.

I always wondered why seabl changed to go under BA.

What were the benefits??

They seemed fairly stable and well run on there own from the outside.

LK has shown what a single entrepreneurial owner with his money on the line can deliver this year. Maybe the problem for WNBL and SEABL is that they are not run by entrepreneurs but with a BA board and key staff all coming from basketball and big business, so nobody have their own money in the game !

Most would have thought that with the appointment of Paul Maley the WNBL and SEABL competitions would have moved ahead? Board includes Andrew Gaze, Brian Delaney, Ned Coten and besides Maley the key staff list now also includes Jan Stirling so it is not basketball knowledge that is missing!

Where is the problem? - product, people, processes or attitude?

Leadership is the key, and usually is!

That said, if the board and it's leader are on the same page it should be working, question is are they...>?

Lack of money is a big problem as they are very thin staff wise and there are some areas that have no staff at all which are key parts of there business.

Correct. Operating on an oily rag because they still haven't found a way to monetise the sport's participation rates. Once (if) they can get associations on board with that BA's ability to run the sport will change significantly.

Lack of money except for the top job. KK wasn't doing it for anything but an exorbitant salary.

KK has not been involved for some time .. time to stop complaining about her .. maybe the real issue is that the " business model " is broken?

The WNBL has been under BA for a long time now - probably close on 15 years I would think. I think given the challenges it has had BA on balance have done a reasonable job.

The interesting thing about SEABL is that I think the same core staff are running it. The SEABL thing was very odd last year, news content all over the BA site, the SEABL site suffering etc.

As to why the SEABL went under BA? Good question. Was there political pressure from the States?

It seems that LK treated the NBL like a startup business that needed a kick. He was willing to try things and pull the plug if it didn't work.

Any BA organisation/league is treated like a publicly listed company. Staff seem set in their ways and unwilling to change. A lot of management have been successful on the court although not so much in the business world.

Nice analogy but for BA it's more like the public sector/government department.
