WNBL Round 15

A good win by the Adelaide Lightning last night over Melbourne Boomers and a Good win for Townsville to go top of the table against Sydney also..

Some interesting games to come that could make or break some teams playoffs chances.

Saw the Lightning game
Well done to the Lightning organisation. What they have done this year is amazing. Very very well coached last night. Melbourne were crap, but weren't allowed into the game either. Not sure what they have done but Tess and Liv going backwards there.
Lightning deserve much more support and media than they are getting.

In fairness to Tess, she is playing injured but really should put the queue in the rack and have her surgery.

Melbourne were terrible, couldn't handle the full court pressure from lightning. Ruef and in particular Standish were dominant while Mitchell had a rare off shooting night.

Olivia Thompson playing with Forestville in the ABA this season, wouldn't be surprised if she hangs around with Lightning next season to add much needed depth to their bigs (better option than Bigate).

If they keep the existing roster and possibly add Phillips they should be in the finals mix. Erin is pulling the pin to play with Port Adelaide women's AFL team, seems a good way to finish her basketball career with the club where she started?

Surely Boti's article in the Sunday Mail is taking the piss! He couldn't find any good words to say about the Lightning beating the Boomers convincingly at home. Instead the whole premise of his article was stating the Lightning Coach overplaying her starters in that game & predicting a downfall against Canberra because of the overplaying! Surely a conflict of interest for Boti when his daughter is a bench player for the Lightning! It's the same when he starts pumping up the tyres of his niece Sara Blicavs like she's the second coming of Penny Taylor. C'mon Boti you're better than that, lift your game old boy.

Boti needs to learn there is a fine line between being a well respected journo and a prick. Hope he can stop looking after his own interests and return to his former form.

Lightning not having too many dramas so far.
20 point lead at half time! Defence has restricted Canberra to 26 points in a half at just 25% from the field.

Yikes ... Lightning very nearly choked that one away. They escape with a 3 point win.

Lightning have leap-frogged the Melbourne Boomers on the ladder this round. Meanwhile the Caps move to 0-20.

Clyde the Glide - take nothing away from Adelaide, Melbourne have an injury list that would start in most teams. Cole, Madgen, Penaluna & Smart. Playing with 3 development players so the assessment of those kids going backwards may need to be looked at in a different light

This playoff jostling is intense. Sydney look in trouble now unless Swords is somehow ready to return next weekend.
SEQ advance to 5th spot and are one of the form teams of the comp atm, and 3 of their remaining games are vs the bottom 3.

Here's the run home for the top 6:

PER [14-6] SEQ, @CAN, @SYD, TSV
TSV [13-6] @MEL, @BEN, DAN, @PER, @ADL
DAN [13-7] @SYD, @CAN, @TSV, SEQ
BEN [12-8] TSV, ADL, @SYD, @CAN
SEQ [11-8] @ADL, @PER, CAN, @MEL, @DAN
SYD [12-9] DAN, PER, BEN

You really need to question who ever melbourne have as trainers with the injury list they have accumulated, it was the same last season and the question was asked re why all the injuries, but it was shot down in flames. Well two years in a row , different players each year, except Penaluna who seems to be always injured, shame as she's a good player who can't seem to catch a break with her injuries.

They do seem to be Injury prone. It not that far fetched that they might need to evaluate their injury prevention technique as well as their recovery and training methods. It might be a matter of just changing lifting days.. It can be that minor of a change that can make a huge difference.

Boti is still not letting go of it in his latest article
"After excessively playing its starters in Friday's win, a fast start was essential"
LOL

Melbourne's injuries are so different for each player so you can't generalise and say it's one thing. Groin, ankle bruising, miniscus, cartledge damage, ACL, broken hand, and broken finger so as you can see that's just seriously bad luck.

Boti has been bagging Tracy and the Lightning coaching staff all season but he needs to give it a rest!

His daughter is a good local player but can't see her making the jump to WNBL.

What Tracy has done with this group is nothing short of brilliant. She has put together a team on a shoe string budget that has bought into her system. She is definitely the coach to lead them into the future.

Keeping Mitchell, Ruef and Standish are a must. Add another big into the rotation and a wing player and season 2016/17 will be an exciting one.
