Taipans - Crocs, Jan 8th
Cairns making Townsville look every bit as bad as they made Perth look to half time.

Hustle only gets you so far without the talent to make them pay on the other end.

Yeah, been some great/amazing games this season. This was not one.
Crocs if in the league next season next to select their imports to fit their needs.
They have two PGs already so they decide to get Jett.
They needed a scorer so they got Jett. Not sure who made this call but it was a terrible one from the beginning. I understand money was an issue but surely they should have tried harder to keep Blanchfield.
Gladness would have been a better fit, yet they got Schensher?
A very hard team to watch.

There seems to be a lot of ugly games involving Cairns

Worthington: 18 minutes, 0-1 shooting, 1 rebound, 2 assists.
Burston: 18 minutes, 1-2 shooting, 3 rebounds.
Cairns may have won, but this has been the big issue for them this season IMO - same when Loughton was starting. Their starting bigs have too many nights when they bring absolutely nothing.

Their bigs are all slow, aging and losing skills. Not a good mix for a League trying to get quicker and more athletic.

Their bigs are inconsistent but they always seem to have a couple step up - like Trigger and Craig (if he is classed as a tall0 tonight. Burton has had his moments especially early in games. They generally grind out wins but like Crocs are hard to watch

For the NBL to really flourish the grind it out, ugly as hell games need to be a thing of the past.
They are terrible to watch, the average viewer will not keep sitting through that.

Worthington and Burston have been the starters for a while.
Worthington has been strong all season and even when he has a below par offensive night he still mostly brings plenty to the table with a strong all round game.
In last nights game he picked up 2 early fouls and sat down for a majority of the first half. The game was well in control when he came back into it and he defended strongly. He didn't need to do any more than that and it needs to be remembered that this was the Taipans 4th game in 9 days and their 2nd game in 3 days.
Burston doesn't often put up big numbers. As another poster mentioned, he has had his moments - especially early in games. He is very good defensively and that is his main role most of the time, particularly against the better centres in the league.
To say they have too many nights when they bring absolutely nothing is simply not correct.
That is not to say there haven't been problems with the bigs this season as I tend to think that Worthington's inclusion in the Taipans line up has messed with the dynamicschemistry in that area and it has taken them all some time to get used to that.

Wortho would be in the all-defensive team if we had one. He should definitely be candidate for DPOY given Damian Martin has missed so much time.

I think Ogilvy has defensive player of the year in the bag. Leads blocks and must the the first centre to lead steals.
