Just thought I'd officialise this with a new thread. Paul Rogers has signed with the Perth Wildcats for two years.

Obviously his statement that he "owed" the Sixers something for leaving so early in his contract was just trash talk?!?!?

Disappointing. Another big guy slips through the Sixers fingers.
Probably the difference in playing off for the title and where we finished last year.

Got that right wak, time to start chunking them as well.......
Any takers on Rogers being injured and can't play when the Cats arrive in Adelaide.

shows that loyalty doesnt exist,
it would be one thing if he was offered nothing but what he was offered is not much less then what perth offered
guess we know what type of character rogers truely is

Bring on the Wildcats and welcome the new Bradtke.
Sixers should have the overseas clause read along the lines that a player can go and play overseas anytime they like provided when they return to Australia they play 1 year at minimum for the sixers.
We have lost
Bradtke
Rogers
Mee
Catalini
all through being generous in the contract, the player gets all the beenfit and no recourse for the club.

I dont think it will amek any difference if he is in or out when the come to the Dome. They have pretty much noone in the guard position so Maher, Farley and co should have a field day!

Might not have any difference to the game but it's gonna have some difference with the spectators.

Oh absolutely - I hope he stinks it up and cops all that he deserves - no doubt Boti will make a few not so subtle calls in the paper leading up to it and the fans will be ready to give him some curry

Whats the deal with Adelaide always missing out on the big men?
Yeah if he 'owed' adelaide something,he should have paid for peanuts this year!
PR could have signed a 3 year deal with the 36ers and the last two years of the contract could have made up for the first.
He wouldnt be too short of cash would he?
Very dissapointed!!

History says we dont need him.
We have 4 championships without any having and outstanding centres. Whilst it would have been nice, big teams don't necessarily win in the NBL. Just look at West Sydney last year.
His Spanish team didn't think he was worth another year and he didn't quite fit in last time he played for us. We can only hope he will spend most of the next two years for the Cats injured...

I cant disclose the info cause there prob stuff i wasnt told but im sure stephon would agree in saying pretty much the $$$ value was almost the same dif being length of contract had a massive amount to do with it and the fact that rogers was prob never more then 50/50 and i guess like i stated before his loyaltys dont lie with this team and / or state,
and Kent just on the bradtke thing he never wanted to return and again i think you will find Mee was offered a 5 year deal after his last contract with us expired so if he "really" wanted to be a sixer he had the chance then and it would have made him the highest paid import in the league at the time, i to would have like to have seen him back but i believe the club had to honor there intent to sign rychart and willie first, i think it would have been a lot different if mee was naturlised long enough to be classed as a non import,
all though the negotiating with farley was sucessfull all be it drawn out (not throwing blame or taking sides both partys are equally at fault with delays)had it not been sucessfull after the long period and then to find out we lost Mee i would have been seriously pissed but credit to the staff at least the honored there word with farley in making him the first priority
same with the cat i would love to see him in our colors again but with the current $$$$ cap its not gonna happen :( until the "NBL" put together a plan for the growth and exposure for this league unfortunetly teams "outside" of the bum buddys (you know the teams) we will allways be at a financial dis ad because of there hard line with certain teams in regard for cap and there complete disregard of cap restrictions with certain teams

There is no way Perth's offer was similar to Adelaide's. If it was he wouldn't have signed for 2 years.
Rogers is a top line player. He deserves more than the minimum so it's fair enough. Despite what some people read into it, he NEVER said he would play for minimum salary.
Doctor E

Would the NBL have approved it?
It just doesn't make sense that he would chose Perth if the offers were similar.
I know people will accuse him of going against everything he has said but I think there has to have been a legitimate reason. Either Perth offered more, or the NBL wasn't going to approve our offer so he had no choice.

How long does it take the NBL to 'approve' a contract? Weren't the Sixer's admin to talk with Rogers end of last week (read that officially somewhere) when he CAME BACK FROM PERTH? Looks like he organised Perth before he had 'talks' with Adelaide, if that ever happened.
What shits me is the fact that stated on radio his desire and sense of loyalty to Adel... then the knife in the back.
PS - I'll take all this back if it was that he signed with Perth because the NBL didn't approve the Adel deal.

The whole Rogers scenario seemed pretty suss from the start, I just didn't see the NBL approving whatever contract the 36ers offered, no matter how much Rogers claimed he wanted to play for the team. Bottom line, he is a very good player and deserves to be paid accordingly. Would have been nice to give him a second chance, but lets get over it!

I agree completely Wak. Fair enough to Rogers if the NBL didn't approve the proposed Adelaide deal but that is not what I think happened.
I believe Rogers never accepted any deal with Adelaide while he waited for a formal offer from West Sydney.
Perth came up with a 2 year deal and he obviously accepted it quite quickly.
The thing that is annoying is that he used Talking Hoops to state his desire to play for the 36ers for way below market value and repay the 36ers for leaving us at the same time the salary cap went down leaving us screwed big time.
He obviously told the same stuff to Nagy when he went to press with his 'Rogers wants to be a 36er' article.
I don't know what Adelaide's offer was but I've heard rumours it was generous with a legitimate outside employment aspect to it that would have seen Rogers generously remunerated...probably overpaid in fact.
I'm sure Perth's offer was better than ours so good luck to Rogers if he would rather play with Shanahan and Ronaldson than Maher, Rychart and Farley.
Sour grapes I know, but when healthy Burston is a better player than Rogers as evidenced by the 36 points or so he dropped on Rogers a few years back. Rogers should be his back-up.
Perth's front court is extremely slow on paper and unless they screw over one of their young signees they have no roster spot for an import point guard leaving them with only Shanahan.

its sad we did not get him, but really we never really function well with a big target inside and last time he did not really click that well. While i would have liked him here, and you could get a lot worse i dont think this is soul destroying stuff. How many people really thought he would play for near nothing?
Rogers is a waste of good space in the paint. He would just get in the way of our guards getting to the hoop. I'm glad we don't have him. With Cooper, Rees, Forman, Nash, Holmes, Hambour signed already, all who aren't the quickest of blokes, another big slow body would make the team to slow and top heavy. The sixers have a great mix of smalls, mediums and bigs right now and again a good mix of experince and youth, and with Holmes and Forman one year older, and one year smarter, and with Nash back, we are looking in the best shape at this point in a season in quite some time.
Would suggest, apart from a long term injury to Maher or Farley, that anything less than a final four appearance would be considered under achieving.

I'm glad he isn't coming, despite the fact I was hoping he would. I seemed to enter into a temporary state of delusion that he would be good for the team, that he would fit the system, play hard & stay healthy. I wouldn't be so ashamed of the delusion if I hadn't convinced myself of the exact same delusion 3 years ago.
But I have learnt that I can't stand Rogers as a player, never have and never will and that I adore hating him as player as much as I do. In fact I can't wait to let out 3 years of unresolved and unexpressed feelings and emotions about the man on the 3/9, no matter what an ass I will make of myself.

Geez what a fickle bunch we are. All 'whooppee-ing' at the prospect or PR coming to 36ers and then as soon as he takes an obviously better offer, everyone comes down on him like a ton of bricks.
I can't believe some of these posts.
All ready to sacrifice Rees for Rogers, now Rogers is 'persona-non-grata'.
Good luck to him. How many of us would take more money for 2 years than a 1 year deal?
I think some people need to 'get real' and not bag players for thinking of their (probably very limited-given his foot injury!) future earnings.
Sure he wanted to play in Adelaide because he felt he owed 36ers, but he never said he would do it for peanuts. And if you listened to talking hoops on Tuesday, even Brett Maher said that PR tooks the offer that was best for him.

Well said dana, its ok to dislike players but if they are going to help your team then hey all would be forgotten.
I wonder how people would have reacted if Simon Kerle joined the sixers?
