Ekene Ibekwe Released By United
"CTI Melbourne United today announced that it had mutually agreed to release import Ekene Ibekwe on compassionate terms.
Ibekwe and his partner are expecting their first child and after much discussion, Melbourne United have given him their full blessing to return to Europe to be with his partner through the pregnancy.
Melbourne United CEO Vince Crivelli gave his best wishes to Ibekwe.
"Ekene has been a valued part of our team since his arrival but the difficulty he is going through with being away from his partner during the most important time of their lives means it's better for both parties if we put family before basketball," Crivelli said.
“We have been working through this for the last few weeks, and I congratulate and thank Ekene for his professionalism and honesty as we dealt with it, along with his contribution to the playing group”.
Ekene Ibkewe thanked the Club for their understanding.
“I’ve enjoyed my time with Melbourne, and I will miss the guys that I’ve got to know while we’ve been together. However family does come first, and I couldn’t give my total commitment to the team when I needed to be supporting my partner.”
CTI Melbourne United are expected to make an announcement on a replacement in the next week."

Wow big blow for United, especially so late in the offseason/ close to the season start. Wonder who will replace him? Who do you guys think will replace him?
Maybe DQ, he's the only person I can think of.
That being said wish all the best for Ibekwe and his soon to be new born child!
