Saw and article on afl.com.au about the possibility of a 17 game season (everyone plays everyone once) then moving to three seperate divisions. Top 6, Middle 6 and Bottom 6 to sort out finals positions.
Top 6 play the other teams from that group for positions 1-6, Middle play off for the final 2 finals positions and the bottom 6 play off for draft positions etc.
I really like this model, what do others think? Could it work in the AFL and could it be implemented in the NBL once there are more teams.
For example with a 12 team NBL league it could split into 3 divisions of 4 teams playing each other twice. So it would be 22 game season followed by a further 6 placing games for the top 6.
