Here is a conspiracy theory for you all to ponder:
I've been having a look over the past few years and have noticed that basically every team that Sydney won the championship with there has been question marks over the salary cap. Wasn't it about 3 or 4 years ago that the NBL was saying that they need to get basketball back in Sydney and make it the hotspot in Australia. Seems funny to me that the NBL would say this and then Sydney start actually winning playoff games and putting together a talent, but dodgy (salary cap) roster.
The NBL has probably decided that Sydney has had enough winning and whilst Sydney isn't exactly back to it's glory days, it's a hell of a lot better than it was 3-4 years ago.
Now, has the NBL decided that they need a champion from another state to recreate interest again, hence the Brisbane Bullets being allowed to sign some marquee names for the upcoming season. Cairns has done very well (I don't think they have cap issues), and I suspect that Townsville will be strong.
I suspect that the NBL is happy with the numbers (whilst on a decline for a while but still pretty good compared to other clubs) that the 36ers generate and the package they put on the floor, and they have also had their time with the championships in 1998,1999,2002.
It's funny that a few years ago when Derek Moore could of played for the 36ers that the NBL became suspicious of the deal and ruled against Adelaide and Moore. It's funny again that the opportunity to sign Rogers to a contract and once again the NBL stuck it nose in and made an issue where really there was none.
I don't know, maybe I'm seeing skeletons in the closet and shadows that aren't really there or I'm being a bit over-sensitive after the last few days, but things just seem a little suspicious to me........
