Clubs without domestic programs

How many if any teams are out there in SEABL of Big V that dont have a domestic program or VJBL program and are still competing. I remember the Uni teams were there in Big V, is it viable for the club as a whole considering the pecking order is domestic, junior rep, Big V etc

I know they have low numbers in VJBL but how about domestic, surely they have.

Looked at Keysboroughs website, no domestci fixtures on there junior or senior. Perhaps they have it in another site somewhere.

If a club doesn`t have domestci they can get affiliation as a member club can they? And if you are not affilicated how can you be in VJBL or BIG V?

Original topic title was "FOUNDATION." Is "Clubs without domestic programs" a reasonable replacement to make it more descriptive?

Is it best as a state-specific discussion or national?

They must be affiliated or they wouldn`t be in VJBL or BIG V. Can`t have one without the other.

Although we (Melbourne Uni) don't run a competition, we do have a few hundred members who play domestic basketball for us at MSAC on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights and we often run MMBL teams as well.

I'd say we are probably Australia's biggest domestic club for adults. Probably a bit over half are students, the rest are post-grads. Generally, anyone with a tertiary education who wants a game at any adult level is welcomed to the club. We actually have quite a large base of international students playing in the beginner grades right up to the top squads which have historically had a lot of success in the MMBL, Big V and before that, the VBL.

The lack of a junior program makes it a bit hard to recruit for state league basketball but we tend to pick up players from our University Games team and various other places. The social atmosphere at the club tends to do a lot of the recruiting for us.

I imagine it would be very difficult to fund a Big V/SEABL program given the costs involved unless it was offset by contribution from a domestic program. In our case, we also receive a partial stipend from the University of Melbourne to further their mandate of social development of the student base.

Then is Keysie the only VJBL/Big V club without a domestic program. How do they get VJBL, no disrespect but is that picking up players cut from Dandy, McKinnon, Sandy, Chelsea, Frankston etc.

For the entry requirements for VJBL look here: http://vjbl.com.au/fileadmin/user_upload/images/PDFs/New_VJBL_Association.pdf

Pretty comprehensive!

Melbourne Tigers have no domestic program whatsoever. How are they affiliated with VJBL?

BY domestic "program" are we talking about having their own domestic comp? Or that they have domestic teams from which they choose their rep teams?

eg.. Whittlesea don't have a domestic club, but they have their own comp whereby they draw their rep players from ( as well as open tryouts)

Whereas Eltham are a domestic club who draw primarily on that program for their rep teams.

Bulleen also seem to be in the same boat but play in the Eltham domestic comp. ( Although a couple of Bulleen rep players who my son played against this season play domestic for a purely domestic club in the Eltham comp.).

So ... which is it?

Eltham and Bulleen have domestic comps at senior men, women and mixed. and primary schools comps. They also enter teams in the Saturday Eastern Districts Jr Basketball Association comp. Often referred to as domestic. Then they also enter teams in the VJBL and Big V.

Melbourne don't have either. That is a domestic competition or domestic teams of their own. They are a Rep club only, which is in contradiction of BV by-laws and VJBL eligibility.

Don't ask that question too loudly in BV circles if you don't wish to create a few enemies.

If Melbourne align themselves with a domestic program Oakleigh or MSAC they would be fine. i think you will find that is what they do.

Latrobe never had that or Monash. As stated above Melb Uni have there own version sof these.

If Keysborough have no affiliation or Domestic leagues of there own as is stated above they are unable to take part in VJBL or BIG V.

Maybe someone from one of those leagues should investigate this further and see what they come up with.

Well Melbourne aren't aligned with Oakleigh they run their own independent competitions.

Port Phillip are affiliated with the MSAC competitions.

Again Melbourne are not aligned with any domestic competition.

Given you can only bring in 2 players from other clubs each year I hardly think that is the only way they are making up teams.

Not from there and i know that in the old days they certainly would poach heavily but the rules have been adjusted to deal with things like that.

Bottom line if governance rules were enforced properly Melbourne and maybe one or two other wouldn't be affiliated.

That would be a hoot!!!

1 - Why do people care so much about other clubs? Bit of a vendetta/bad blood it seems?

2 - All those clubs have domestic teams/comps if you do your research properly e.g. Keysborough & Hampton Park have domestic teams that participate at Dandenong.

^if you read the OP, they are asking about viability in this instance. It hasn't been answered, except to some degree by the University poster, but it is an interesting question.

Keysborough's domestic teams are probably better than their rep teams lol.

The reason for this is that years ago you had to pass certain credentials to get in to Big V/SEABL e.g. financial stability, good stadium, committee structure, foundation (domestic & VJBL) etc, Keysie don't seem to have any of this yet if you apply then you get in lets be honest. Dont get me wromg Keysie have done well considering they have all players from other clubs but what happened to elite and earning the right.

Senior men will recruit more players to compete in D1 and they will sign up old Casey womens coach in the hope he will bring over Casey players to fill out there womens squad - Problems solved and everyone is happy.
