BSA Competition Manager Resigns

After just 8-9 months Sarah Fry has resigned. How can the Commission allow this constant drain of staff out of BSA Head Office and not action this.

Questions about the CEO being ignored, members getting no value for money.

What is happening here? We know the money is not great, but is it such a negative culture in the workplace? Sarah has worked here before. Where is the leadership on this?

An entirelessly thankless job. Thanks SF for getting the kids and parents through the season. The finals will look after themselves. May the next person benefit from all the previous hardwork.

Seriously something has to be done by !

This is killing the game but no action on CEO is poor by commission

Commission need to step up or move on. Not willing to make the tough decisions to improve the sport and ensure staff have the support and trust to do their jobs.

Commission need to act but won't.

Maybe it's time for BSA to go into the big room of mirrors and have a good look at themselves and why this person left. It may indicate a few short comings.

A business (and organisation) can learn a lot from former employees as well as disgruntled customers. These people can provide the best form of feedback to an organisation. You might not like what you hear, but if you don't listen, then it is to your detriment.

Clubs attitudes didn't help either. Every club president needs to take a long hard look at themselves

Although the competition manager is not at fault, the system is for things that frustrate people like multiple home games at other stadiums such as Morphett Vale, then going back to your home stadium to find 2 courts not being used from 10.30 on. Many other examples. Time for a review of court availabilities and other options such as those from the building revolution and rec centres like turra murra and the multitudes of others unused to pick up local games rather than players from 2 clubs driving past a few stadiums for a home away.. It also affects lower divs which are already messed around with 5 weeks notice, then nothing and games running anywhere from 8.30 to 11.30 Saturdays. We need week night games for all divisions and leave weekends for domestic. School basketball is a mess again with courts around Adelaide at schools and other facilities underused which could pick up school ball games. A big ass review is needed collectively for the good of basketball in SA in its entirety. Vic has the highest junior participation rate out of all sports. Yes in footy mad Vic basketball rules and that is due to the population but also how it is structured. We need a similar model and some better and more mature employees for umpiring while we are at it.

I think the only court space available on a Saturday morning would be starplex, and I am sure if centrals had more Saturday teams this would not be the case. Cant blame the system for a clubs inability to field district basketball teams. With all that court space free I am sure they run some sort of local competition there any way

BSA have always hated scheduling at Starplex due to "cost". It's a chicken and egg thing. If BSA scheduled Centrals teams at Starplex instead of Hillcrest, then you might find more Centrals teams.

pasadena has 2 courts free until kids social basketball starts at 11.50. No games scheduled from 10.30 so thats 2 games that could be played on court 2/3 while aussie hoops on court 1. they wouldn't interfere with each other and bring home games back to where they should be.

revist that with sturt as 2 courts are free from 10.30 and only 1 used by aussie hoops from 11 then all 3 from 11.50. they might release a few courts to allow home games for their teams

Actually, Sturt uses 2 courts at 11.00am for Aussie Hoops and 3 courts from 11.50 - 4.00pm.

Can imagine if anything over time it will be moving in the opposite direction.

whilst we have the largest club trying to fit into a 2 court stadium - these problems will arise week in, week out.

south, north, west and woodville badly need new stadiums relevant to their club size - they just don't have the infrastructure to run these ideals.

when you walk into campbelltown in a few months you will understand

Agreed. The issue is Head Office. This employee has resigned after just 9 months. Following a long list of resignations over the past 2 years including the Marketing and Communication role that has had 2 employees and a long list of temps and interns over the past 3 years. Position still remains unfilled and being advertised for a salary no one in this field would consider.

Seems like the entire office needs a clean out, starting at the top. But who will step up and take responsibility for saving the game at the state level?

Blog, no one has mention Sturt and it's stadium, just that if courts are free for both teams to not have to go further out then why schedule them away from a vacant court. It could apply to any court in Adelaide. This is not about anything else but the loss of a person who has tried their best within a system that seems to be more difficult than need be due to lack of communication and all of Adelaide being on the same page for the good of basketball in this state Not a bitch fest for people to vent against clubs. Get some perspective. i am sure that teams travelling from West, Centrals, Norwood would prefer to play at Pasadena rather than go past at 7.45 in the morning to Morphetvale when they could go to Pasadena for the apparently 1 free court at 10.30. Nothing more, nothing less.

The solution being BSA, Clubs, other sports working together with councils and state/fed governments to ensure stadiums are big enough to handle demand. Then no one needs to travel to neutral venues during a home/away season and venues will be able to accommodate everyone

BSA have had multiple positions vacated from admin, marketing, competitions, stadium managers and development personal in both the metropolitan and regional positions. Talk about a sinking ship!

Seems after reading this thread no one likes to take responsibility for their actions that includes clubs and BSA staff.

Clearly there needs to be a change in attitudes and the way people go about things, what if people actually read by-laws before sprouting off about a wrong decision from BSA (as per another thread on here), and how about clubs making more of an effort to control their members and participants.

What is classed as exceptable behavior these days weather it be in email form, in person or on a forum like this?

How many more staff do BSA have to go through before everyone will back off and let the people employed in these roles do their jobs properly, clearly they were hired for a reason and there is an even clearer reason why they keep leaving...
Sit back and ask yourself did anyone thank these people, or did you just critisise them for doing what has been handed down to them?

Time for an external consultant to be paid to survey existing and exited staff from the last few years and anonymously get to the bottom of it all. Is it leadership, overwhelmed staff, inappropriate staffing, etc.. Need and external analysis.
