279 - Somantics.. Yep 2nd year coaching, whatever, should be impressed with mostly Club Juniors developed to Premier League level.. Pretty good effort I would say. How many clubs have achieved the same and had an end of season run like this and so many away wins to make the Grand Final. Anyone have the stats or history on this ?

Eastern won it from 5th in 2004.

Speaking of 2004 time to remember Jacob Holmes stats for that finals series - was like double doubles all the way .

Another Stat to look for would be how many previous club juniors who became coaches aka Maher and Rigoni have taken a team from 6th to GF with a bunch of club juniors. You have to admire it even if you are not from sturt.

Yea just looking from the outside in it seems that Sturt shows the best transition from Junior into Seniors. Is it a club thing or just specific to this years group?

COTY

Yes CJ Reed has had little or no impact. This is exactly why COTY should include finals.

club policy and it's working. its about feeding player opportunity to college and doing their bit for the state, national and international stage. no matter what you think of sturt you have to admire their position looking outside of the club and beyond. all clubs should be providing pathways to the bigger basketball world. that is what entices players to stay with sturt and for others to move to there. For those that are on the fringe within the club they know that as players move on to the bigger stage their is an opportunity for younger players to move in to. impressive really. Many Junior Div 3's stick with the club rather than move to 1/2 teams elsewhere because of this opportunity. They decide they may be better in a hard Div 3 comp with mainly 2nd years with good coaching and long term opportunities is better than maybe going somewhere they can play 1st years in Div 2 or take a Div 1 spot with lesser coaching in a lower ranked team. If they know that state is limited with numbers and they may be on the fringe even if they did move, why not stay and do the yards and have a future beyond juniors. Its a philosophy many don't get and it is not easy for the kids. But I could list so many that have gone on to bigger things from Div 3 and thankful they made that decision to stay and many that have gone through 1/2 to Premier then college or state to international. And here they are with their ex Boomer Coach giving back. Yep Sturt may be a thorn in people side and a few people int he club that are a bit prickly but they still have those roses we admire and gee it smells good for the Premier League team at the moment. Longevity and building a legacy form the bottom up.

And how many senior premierships have sturt won minus the Scott Ninnes years where he recruited players from other clubs. Nice propaganda!

Well I don't think its good when a coach swears at the score bench loud enough for children to hear Like Brett Maher does! It does not show good sportsmanship for juniors ...

Sturt have had an easy run in to finals, scraping by West who had an injured Peter Crawford and just getting by Woodville with no Mitch Creek....

so sturts win last time against woodville with mitch was because no ng but sturt had players missing too.. and crawford did play for wests but sturt were without their big and the win against norths with mvp miller was of course another you know. keep it coming and throw some more at us and i have heard plenty of swearing everywhere including juniors at certain clubs swearing on court at sturt juniors so again keep it coming. men in high pressure situation and nobody on woodville bench swore and what about he music. heard olenty of shit and pussy coming out of the beat box. was that offensive too when everyone could hear that. seriously people. no one bagged out a club in this post just admiring an achievement and now a slang at any thing you can think of.

Shame Forestville don't take a leaf from Sturt and play youth ( their own) in the men's program, rather than have all of them playing in every other club!!

In the past 15 yrs the recruit laden, hired guns Forestville have appeared in 8 ABL/Premier League Grand Finals.

Sturt with their homegrown heroes have appeared in 7.

The poster you replied to was stating facts.

BTW: Norwood and West on 5 appearances.

Homegrown heroes, Butch Hayes, Ng, Wilkey, Gowers, Lomman, etc.
With all their vaunted junior program doesn't translate in seniors. At least Forestville are completely open about buying titles and not using juniors.

Interesting this years 2 finalists Norwood and Sturt have benches of mainly juniors U20 age. Maybe this developmental attitude plays a large part in their continued success.

Sturt certainly has success across the club. Overall from Juniors to Seniors most successful in the State with a program that is showing longevity. It is not all about a few Premierships at CABL/Premier level. It is an assessment of the entire club as a whole and no one can argue their success in that department.

Ugh, anonymous - do us all a favour and stop bleating about how great our club is all the time! Let the results speak for themselves! The fact that you probably contribute little to this success, yet lord it over others, is particularly annoying.

Why shouldn't Sturt members take the time to come out in support of their club?

Surely positive opinions are just as important as results. Cause without them people might not know what is happening.

358, great use of the forum to let people know of your club's successes. I wish my club had something to be proud of. Surely we would at least consult with the sturt hierarchy on how to build the success they have.
