NBA Preseason Cup

The NBA Africa game got me thinking. How good would it be if the NBA started a preseason competition instead of having random teams play etc. Possibly include some of the higher level Euro Teams.

Possibly invite the Euro league Champions and Runner up to form a 32 team format.

8 pools of 4 play a round robin with top 2 moving onto the next round.

This format for the end of the preseason would give all NBA teams at least 3 games of high quality basketball and open doors up to the entire world.

The pool rounds could be held in 8 different areas of world.

Held over 2 weeks, it would be a good length fit.

They already play 8 months of the year, doubt they'd want to be playing too much more

This preseason cup would replace most of the current pre season games. Maybe 2 lead in games to this, then play the tournament. All teams would then get atleast 5 pre season games with the finalists playing 9 games

9 pre season is way too many. They're already looking at cutting down on pre season games to only a couple to try to free up some room in the regular season and stop the amount of back to backs and 4-in-5s.

well if it is truly too many, maybe look to play a single elimination format.

Would cut it down to 5 games max, could still play in four regions, then play the final 4 in the US?

If played with a 2 week gap before the season and with extended rosters, it wouldn't be too hard on the players. Teams that lose early can then play a couple of meaningless games to make up for the early losses.

Would be great to see the regions as: Asia/Oceania, Africa, Europe and South America. With the Final 4 in the US.

For instance this year would see:

Round 1 (Round of 32): Tuesday September 29
Round 2 (Round of 16): Thursday October 1
Round 3 (Regional Final): Saturday October 3
Round 4 (Final Four): Friday October 9
Round 5 (Grand Final): Sunday October 11
