Playing China next, this will be the first real test for this team to see if they are geniune contenders.

china were pumped vrs spain - will push aust.
At the pointy end of the tournament now.
China will be tough, but I think will get em.
Russia after that with the home crowd will be another step up.
great play in the first quarter against China, should of made the sub's earlier (and more of them)
Yeah.. No more rest days now.
Then Russia and potentially usa?
Should see full bench being used if we have a descent lead to rest starting 5.
defence is still no existent, thought China would have been better than that, the standard for a worlds comp is almost domestic level
It was definitely a better defensive effort than the group games.
Next is probably Russia who primarily score in the post. Vadeeva... Looks very good.
Much like smith but I think a tad better at this stage.
The crowd might be a factor also.

"defence is still no existent, thought China would have been better than that, the standard for a worlds comp is almost domestic level"
Nothing more predictable than people watching junior WCs and bagging the standard. It always looks easy from the couch.
Geez belgiums pg and centre have a big motor.
Amazing how far they've gotten.

russia passed a lot through the high post leading up and kicking it to the weakside for a shot or dribble penetration vrs egypt (or a back cut from a pg position) - thats really the only game i watched from russia

belgium and netherlands have both got so international players on the up - depth is their problem

spain 3 v belgium 42 rankings - awesome work by belgium
those euro players can backhand kick those penetration dribbles really well.
Allemand and and geldoff are ones to watch for the future for Belgium.
Salvadores is top ranked international going into college. (Duke)
Would you agree?
OMG ...
We just smacked China in the qtr final and folks are still
moaning ...... Try this folks, jump on the bandwagon and support our kids and staff. Finals at a world champs is always going to be difficult, check the body language on our kids... Happy, supportive and want a medal so bad.
Who starts, who should sub in for who ... Just support them because that is what we do
Only one anon complained....
This is a forum. He/she can have an opinion.
Just ignore it.

semi will be tonight aust time - just go to you tube and type in FIBA in you tube search - games all there full and uninterrupted. will be a very tough game vrs russia at home - lot of pressure - just like the womens worlds in czech repub a few years ago - home support worth 10-15 points - however aussies in good form will be a classic international.

May have to check this one out I think, here's to a good game.
Should be a ripper. Go Gems! It won't be easy though. Barely 17, Russia's Maria Vadeeva has some game. Her contest with Lauren Scherf probably worth the price of admission alone.
How will Wallace & Tupea go against that lively Russian PG ?

wasnt offensive on scherf - other player ran straight into her screen
vadeeva.... a such a great prospect...
Not boxing her out at all.

russia playing old fashioned bigs game and getting it done
And no defence from Australia which has been the issue all tournament . Get pirini off absolutely no defence tupaea no different. Sherfs been working her tail off

just like the womens worlds in the czech republic - home team / crowd = 15-20pts better than normal.

if we can keep this under 25 at this stage. looking very rattled and russia have belief
39 / 25 Russia leads at half time in all categories except blocks . Commentators praising Sherf , she should have been starting definetly
Yep I'm on. Cmon Aussie girls now. Be interesting to see how our girls come out now.
Antoniadou would have been useful in this situation.
Levchenko doing a delly.
Russia at worlds haven't performed on the women's side last few years. Future looks good though. All over the floor really...
Has scherf chosen not to go to college?
Wallace-Baylor
Smith-Stanford
Sharp-wake forest
Froling-smu
Dennis-Dayton

shooting at 17% wont get it done - good D by the home team
Love the commentary lol but not much of a crowd for a world champs which is a shame
Hopefully girls will come out fired after the break
Yes antoniadou would have been a huge benefit that's what this team lacks a defensive fast guard.
Hope Sherf starts in this second half they need her to try and match the Russian big who at only 16 is going to be a super star in years to come, great to watch
Vadeeva looks to be a tad shorter than scherf but much bigger and more mobile.
Scherf has probably peeked at 6'5 but vadeeva being only 16 she probably be around 6'6 by the time she stops growing.
Magbegors growth over the next few years will be intersteing to see also.
She is also 6'4. More athletic but very lean.
Too big, too strong, too structured and no
One back home would have made any difference to that score line - Ref's allowed the Russians to go after us on penetration early in the game but punished Smith and Scherf when we did the same. Vadeeva and the PG just a class above right now.
Stay with our kids for the Bronze game, go Aussies
probably not although I think hellessey is a great defensive rebounder.
Maybe her over Dennis as one is defensive minded and the other offensive.
Dennis however did show she can stretch the floor and shoot the 3.
Maley, horvat and magbegor can all make next u19s.
The rest... Some may never see international basketball again?
Trouble is both vadeeva and musina will be there to.... Next time round.
Smith. 3 rebounds, 1 point, fouled out. Ouch!
Wallace and tupaea combined for 25 whilst the other 10 players contributed a total of 32.
vadeeva 27 points, 16 rebounds, 5 blocks. A star in the making.
The commentators hit the nail on the head when they said Australia needed to keep defensive pressure on the PG to disrupt the ability to get it inside. The Russian PG just blew past Tupaea, Pirini and Seaton and when she wasn't running past them she was lobbing in to the bigs.
Problem is no one plays D
Watched the usa v Spain earlier in the week , not sure the outcome will be a bronze for the Aussies this time round but 4th is ok at least they made the playoffs which is better than the boys
It's sort of the opposite of the Russian game.
Spain have really good guards but aren't very big in the post positions.
Do you think Russia have a chance in the final?
Usa pg's aren't that great this time around but they have some nice players in the front court. Wilson, collier, Stevens, anigwe, cox etc.
I think levchenko will be all over Ortiz.
If Gorri doesn't make better use of Sherf then Spain will sail through.
Needs to get froling or smith out of starting 5 they can't let Spain get off to a good start , playing catchup basketball with little weapons to come off the bench is never fun
And the. You need the guards to actually feed it to Sherf !!
All tournament team (in the positions they played) imo:
Pg 5'10 allemand(Belgium)
Pg 5'8 cornelius(Netherlands)
Pg 5'11 wallace(Australia) (just pips levchenko from Russia)
Sg 5'10 salvadores(Spain)
Sg 6'1 carleton(Canada)
Sf 6'1 collier(usa)
Sf 5'11 llorente(Argentina)
Pf 6'3 Wilson(usa)
Pf 6'4 musina(Russia)
Pf 6'4 smith(Australia)
C 6'4 vadeeva(Russia)
C 6'3 Hof (Netherlands) (just pips elgedawwy from Egypt)
What has happened in the 2nd half?
Bronze or nothing! Cmon girls!
.
Years ago
The home team would have been gearing up for this several years ago and anything less is unacceptable. They will push USA
Goriss lol....
No subs, no timeouts. Burning out players who can't keep up.
.
Years ago
So what is everyone's thoughts on bronze? About where we should be ? Awesome effort by all involved IMO!
Well done girls! Got a bit tight for my liking when it was not necessary.
Not sure if Goriss is best for the job?
Very stagnant at times, didn't have many plays to feed it into the post and our defensive pressure was definitely lacking throughout the tournament. A lot of empty passes around the perimeter to....
Will be interesting to see what seebohm does next month at u17.
Highly rated coach.
We should celebrate the medals like the text of the world ... Unfortunately we don't .
Coach is instructed to run Opals playing style, got tight but still got the W. 17s coach will be on show as far different from coaching pro players. I am sure he will do well
putin to ride in naked on a horse when Russia wins....

Very close at half time - home team not as dominant physically or mentally as they were against Australia - turn overs , floundering a bit under pressure
Tournament team? (From top 3 sides)
5'11 Wallace(Australia)
5'10 salvadores(Spain)
6'1 collier(usa)
6'3 Wilson(usa)
6'4 vadeeva(Russia)
The Dutch, swedes, Belgium and Russia have really nice futures on the women's side.
Levchenko with an awesome behind the back pass...
What about the future of the bronze medallists, surely they have done very well?
some are off to college(Wallace,Froling, Smith, Sharp next yr) others are still young enough for another un19s in two years(Magebor, Horvat, Mali) Sherf and Tupaea are contracted already to WNBL the others they will most likely be lost in the system along with all the others waiting in the ranks of WNBL/SEABL teams possibly never heard of again, though I have heard Seaton was/is pursuing a modelling career and will give basketball the flick now .

That is very detailed information anon^. I am sure every international side will be impacted in a similar way. I can't recall any under 19 side (or any other junior team for that matter) that stays the same one year to the next.
Thinking these girls have done a great job on the biggest stage, congratulations to all concerned, well done!
wasn't saying they haven't done a great job, it was in reply to this
""What about the future of the bronze medallists, surely they have done very well?""
what other futures would you be expecting, they are all either still in school or just starting college??, and yes agree some other teams will be in the exact same position now that under 19 worlds is finished, with the exception of the European teams who have a huge competition to be able to go into, our girls next next stop is uni games in 20179if they are in uni), their are already plenty ahead of them for the Oceania series for this years opals , Olympics and commonwealth games especially with Joyce's preference for the current young players
....did you think this will give them a leg up into the opals for the next tour LOL

Great work by our girls on their bronze medal. Where can we view the last two games.
Do you guys think Wallace will be a future pg or sg at opals level?
Would you put her ahead of someone like lavey/Clydesdale/panousis (others that are at uni?) who will be vying for a full time opals spot in the next few years.
Phillips and Mitchell are near the end of their international career and I can't see to many capable replacements. Maybe cole and those previously mentioned.
Who else?
Not sure I can see madgen or ebzery switching over to the one...
