It is free on livebasketball.tv
You have to register an account but do not need to subscribe ($).
Watch it on youtube live. It is on the FIBA youtube channel.
Can't find this particular game on YouTube?
Is there a link?
It's only being played on live basketball.tv I believe.
Anyone else have a problem when you enter your email address?

A great interview with Dejan Vasiljevic following the game against his native Serbia.
Defeating Serbia had another meaning for Australia's Dejan Vasiljevic

Thanks. I'm in China so the youtube channel has been blocked. Havethe "starting shortly" screen up now so hope the stream works well.
Great interview LC, what about the fact that there is another kid on our team with Serbian heritage? Looks like you guys missed half the story here!
Doesn't look like finals are on youtube, just the lower teams like the China game.
is this not working for you people ???

Tom Wilson has injured his knee, not good, but the good news is Will McDowell-White could see more court time.
Aussies making some basic mistakes in the second quarter giving Turkey some easy baskets. Can't double the pick and roll guys, come on get with the program.
Angus Glover comes on and takes it to the rack for an And1, great stuff near half time. But we are down a few points at half time, not out of it though.
Correction, DJ drives to the hoop at half time to put the Aussies up by a point!
Come on boys.

Up 1 at the half. Nice fight back after struggling with Turkeys height and PG penetration for much of the first half.
And a 9 point lead with Will McDowell-White stamping his authority, great stuff!

Sensational stuff. Big few minutes coming out of Turkey's time out.
With that foul on Gak, huge swing in the game, Hunter must get into this game when Gak is resting.

Some big long-range shots from turkey are dropping right now...
Crap, we will go into the final quarter down badly, maybe even double figures! We have no big on the court and players out of position, what the hell are we doing, come on coach get the right mix on court at least!
geez, they needed a time out, but no, it just fell apart. that was bad coaching and no big man (oh Froling where are you? we need you)

It's over. Might as well give up. Australia is going to lose.
Yeah anon, let's just fly him in from Aus for the last quarter, you fool, Harry isn't there don't you get it?
We have fallen asleep, we need something!

Yes because he was asking to fly Harry out not questioning the selection
^ it was sarcasm but I guess you don't get it (but thanks for calling me a fool, i really appreciate how nice you are)
show has started...no shooting no win..hope they start teaching it at AIS one day.
Anyone else's stream pausing/going through periods of super low resolution? Or just me? Had absolutely no troubles with the youtube stream.
is DJ a good shooter or just a really streaky one
Since Gak went off in the third on that foul we have not been coached well at all.

Turkey just too much talent in the long run. Killing us with the high pick and roll.
Bad luck boys, the underdog doesn't get the chocolates today done like a dinner by a Turkey, again
Okay, worst call of the tournament, a tech on the Turk big guy for a little hold on the ring after a dunk, seriously soft call that one.
"Why was Froling not selected for the team?"
that really is the question which needs an answer, it left the team so unbalanced
It probably could have had a better balance with another big but not Froling maybe Vague. Anyway we sent a team of shooters and for the most part in this game we didn't even shoot the dam ball. I would be asking why isn't the coach giving our players the chance to play the way they are best and do what they do best?
Some awesome prospects for Turkey coming through.
That speedy 6'4 pg and the mobile lengthy 6'11 pf/c.
DJ is not a very good shooter, why does he jack up so many shots. 19 last game 14 this game
actually I'd say we sent a team will to attack the basket. Which I really really like and as a long term strategy it will pay off in the years to come. but you do need an inside presence to make it really work eg when Gak was pumping in the 3rd.
J. White
Mcviegh
w. McW
Gak
will all benefit greatly
Give DJ a rest HE is not a stat player but a win man.Has no help from Clark and co.
layups will never win now days.Turkeys run in third was all about the 3 ball

Gotta love pack line defense that can't channel penetration, and the "pack" ball-watches - constantly caught out on the back door cut.
I think Turkey's 3 ball did hurt us but not so much as the way they hurt us by passing behind the post defender. Their whole game was just better and we didn't step up. We left it to too few tonight.
We needed a team of:
6'5 W.white
6'4 Wilson
6'2 Vasljevic
6'6 Clark
6'7 Adel
6'7 Mcveigh
6'10 Simmons
6'10 Bolden
6'10 froling
7'0 T.maker
7'0 Humphries
7'1 Perry or 6'10 Gak
Out goes...
6'3 Glover
6'6 Krebs
6'5 J.white
6'7 McKay
6'8 Blagojevic
6'10 Hunter

Considering you missed your 6 best players you can be proud that they made it so far. I'm turkish and I don't think we would have made it out of groups if we missed our 6 best players.
If you ask me, you might have the best talent in the world after the US. That is if guys like Ben Simmons, Thon Maker etc. actually play and don't sit out every tournament of course.
fstos
Years ago
Well said eeb0. Will be following Turkey with interest. On first observation they certainly have some talent.
The Turkish players are just more skilled. Ultimately, Ben Simmons and co. will probably paper over the cracks/deficiencies in junior development in Australia.
The Turkish players in general were just much more comfortable on the ball. They had bigs with better ball-handling skills than our shooting guards and small forwards.
WMW might end up being a star, but does he have (or will he develop) the ball-handling skills and playmaking ability of the Turkish PG he was up against (No. 5, Ugurlu)?
Also you can criticize DJ all you want for his shot selection, but how many other players on the Australian team can actually get those shots off to begin with?
How about we just support. COnsidering we had so many missing the boys that bad. Unlucky to Adam, staff and the boys! Learn and grow and lets get better for the future
Lol, our potential starting 5 could have been supper skilled and massive.

So anon 582. Would you enlighten us on the countries that have the best junior development programs.
^
Just swap White with exum and you'll have your future boomers starting 5 in 2024.
Turkey has a promising basketball future on the men's side along with Canada, Serbia, Nigeria and the Netherlands. I think basketball will really pickup in the uk also over the next several years.
Turkey with a 21 - 2 run in the 3rd quarter and no time out, the dominant player who was on a roll on the bench.
Some of the worst game coaching I have ever seen.
Ugurlu is 2 years older then WMW and has multiple FIBA tournaments under his belt by now compared to WMW first.
Our boy is tracking just fine.
Some strange choices in the gems squad too.
Dennis... Really?
And Pirini?
Antoniadou and hellessey were the better choices by far.
Some strange choices in the gems squad too.
Dennis... Really?
And Pirini?
Antoniadou and hellessey were the better choices by far.
For those who think Froling should been part of the squad (and Im one of them), him and WMW will be repping Australia in the adidads summer series and adidas nations at the end of july.
Antoniadou .... Give it a rest. Out of control combo, not a PG's left boot. Hellesey dropped way off since having a good 20s
the future means that if you are under 6'5-6'6, you shouldn't even take up basketball if you want to make a living out of it.
A lot of teams will carry 4-5 7fters on there roster in the near future.
I remember the craze over a 6'8 women's basketballer who could dunk.
Now most countries have them at present or in the pipeline.
The game is changing so fast...
I remember when 30-35% 3 pt shooting was good. Good shooters now are between 45-50%.
Dennis is to the gems as McKay is to the emus.
Pointless.
Skinner, fareo, McKay, hoycard.
All better options.

Years ago
I think teams will carry less 7-footers in the future. The change is for speed, skill and mobility with the PF spot getting smaller.
Horvat / Sharp - Both have shown glimpses of being pretty good, expectations ?
Draymond is a good example.
But Thompson smoked him on the boards and in the paint.
Davis is the best pf even though he's been playing the c.
This is the squad.
wallace/Pirini
Tupaea/Seaton
Maley/sharp/horvat
Froling/smith/Dennis
Scherf/magbegor
Horvat and sharp are primarily sf's that can play the 2 if necessary although not too well.
Maley a better pf but plays the 3 mostly. Sometimes even at the 2.
Expect Wallace to play 1,2 and 3 aswell as Seaton and tupaea.
Froling, smith and magbegor to play 4 and 5 on occasions.
Pirini only at the 1.
Scherf only at the 5.
Dennis limited minutes at 4.
Usa will dominate in the women's with Spain most likely runners up.
Australia to bow out in 1/4 finals because we will match up with Spain unless we tank.
How stupid is the draw...
Usa, Spain australia falling on the one side.
Some of you are so far off the mark it's not even funny. McVeigh will never go anywhere as SF, he is too small. If I had been coaching him he needs to be a PG or SG. He doesn't yet have that game & it remains to be seen if he ever will. Unless he does he won't even be a good player at NBL level.
To all you coaches out there. ALL your players, need to have ball handling skills & need to be a drop dead shooter. If you don't have that then you're going nowhere.
If anyone has followed DJ, and not just in these World Champs, you'd know he is a streaky shooter. But at least he won't die wondering.
I think Caporn & the coaches would acknowledge they lost a lot with losing Wilson tonight.
Early word is he's got a fractured leg.
Mcveigh is 6'7-6'8.
Yes he needs to put on some muscle(size)...
But, how is that too small?
Look what Simmons has done to his body in the last year.
From 220 to 240+
Abi ymois
Years ago
DJ may be a streaky shooter however how many games has we won by shooting and even though he misses he keeps shooting. Shooters mentality! Apparently he went 9-28 in a competition down in Australia however he led the team to a W. Just saying you might want to watch a bit of his games, no support behind him and has helped the Emus get where they are.
mcviegh is not small he is 6'8 and can play the SF and could develop towards SG.
His moves at these championships towards the basket have been great (like a young newley). his got 4 years at college to work on his body (size & strength) and his shooting (particularly 3point).
he will be very good
Mcveigh is listed at 6'7 1/2, 210 lbs.
Some time in the weight room... He could easily get to 230.
That's a descent sized sf in my books. Maybe not Lebron 6'8 260+
But..
Barnes is listed at 6'8 225.
Leonard 6'7 230.
George is 6'9 220.
Gay 6'8 230.
Hayward is 6'8 225.
Derozan is 6'7 220.
Batum is 6'8 200.
Etc etc.
535600........ You obviously have no idea how antoniadou plays lol
Antoniadou is going to Florida state...
Where is Pirini going?
Antoniadou...you ve been told to give it a rest.
Anyone can go anywhere with good marketing. what matters is how they do. Warming the bench fo years is not pleasant let me tell you. Florida state have Leticia Romero and now Baylor starting guard Imani Wright transferring.
Mate whatever YOUR beef is with Antoniadou suggest YOU give it a rest as your certainly on your own and making a fool of yourself
you clearly know nothing, this kid was never marketed by anyone
Especially not to Florida state from what I've been told by people that actually do know her well(former coaches)they came on board when she was visiting USA just like Wallace with Baylor and Wallace ain't doing too bag coming off the bench as a freshman so suggest you get back in your lonely box ( you've been told !!!!!! Haha)
Now Back on topic .......shame the boys lucked out Tom Wilson-getting injured clearly didn't help their chances of getting that win but also missing some very strong players who are already in the college system left Australia vulnerable .
Again you have to think if players like Simmons and Humfries etc had been available a medal would have been a definiite chance in my books
And the trend especially with the boys of going to highschool to improve their chances of a good college pick up is going to hurt Australia in their junior ranks at international level if they all start to follow this path in the future
BA probably need to take a good look at this , recruiters are starting to hit the Aussies hard which is a combination of good marketing and high schools and colleges seeing a talent pool that has not been so well informed on either side of the world until the last few years. Bogut Mills and now Delly all in quick succession have sparked the attention for the boys , don't know about the girls as you never hear of any going the highschool route first , but with the likes of Wallace ,Smith and yes Antoniadou all at top ten Div1 schools and the Frolings stamping their mark at SMU plus the likes of Pannossis and Barr who kill it in their respective teams I'd expect to see a lot more choosing college over their Aussie commitments.
BA may need to work on ways to keep these good kids in the system for the future.
Anon^ do you know the school holiday periods in the US? College holidays are mid May to Mid August and some of the girls are in college, yet they are also playing with the Gems. The US High school system is also on holidays in June-July, so maybe ask the question why they don't make themselves available?
Because by my reckoning they are available, there must be other reasons! Also, this Emu side left some decent talent behind in AUS, so also ask a question regarding team selection if you like?
We picked a side, it wasn't a bad side but they were not playing to their potential in the positions they play their best, so we lost. Time to regroup and analyse what they learned and how we can improve for the future, US school system is not an issue, you are barking up the wrong tree!

535719 yes your right it is holiday time for usa college so you do have to ask why they didn't (the boys) make themselves available as Wallace and froling have and BA would also need to ask why representing your country is below going to college unless of course the boys needed to do summer school to get their grades in order?
It's too late. He will get his chance in 2 years as he'll still be eligible.
^ I think the boys that were already in college would've made themselves available, as McKay did. I think the issue is the ones that are yet to go to college are the issue, with thhe exception of Jonah Bolden.
If they go to worlds they play in a very structured system and it is hard for them to stand out. And if they don't standout against the world's best they hurt their profile and their stocks could go down, or that's the perception.
Having said that it didn't hurt Bogut or Exum. They both went to U19 worlds.
Simmons, Maker and Adel I can understand, theyre preping for college, but humphries seems to have flown under the radar for his decision not too front. He didnt even play much AAU ball wich was his original reason for not playing from memory.
How did McKay get a scholarship?
i haven't seen anything from him...
Caporn has a knack for helping the other team on a run with some of his subs
Deng Gak looks like he suffers from the Sudanese curse of small hands.
Ive been playing a drinking game of having a shot whenever I see something good from Mckay.
Been sober all tournament apert from the Tunisia game
looking forward to see the gems playing.
At least I know they will put in the effort required.
A medal a real possibility.

Australia need 10 points in 3 minutes. Can they do it? I don't think so.

Preping for college lol ....... They have just finished highschool they are already "prepped" that's why they have preseason which begins October!
For whatever reasons, these guys you are talking about didn't want to go to worlds, get over it. We took some of the best we had, maybe left a couple behind but the coaches prepared this team best the could with what they thought could win games. They probably didn't get the best out of them, but that's coaching, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't!
Playing for 7th spot right now against Spain and we have an early lead.
McDowell showing some nice skills.
Krebs shooting well.
McKay, well... Doesn't bring anything to the team whatsoever.
Glover I thought was an odd pick but has been descent in Wilsons absence. Very active.
3.00 minutes to go and we have 7th place in the bag.

So, our Emu men wound it up in 7th place and the USA had to get over Serbia in O/T to win gold by about 8 points or something like that.
We had a young side and should be better for the experience in two years time. Watching the highlights from the final, there were some nice dunks in there, always a great game in recent years just a shame we couldn't crack it this time...
We should be proud of the boys and their efforts, they had some injury concerns but worked really hard for one another, showing some true Aussie gritt at times.

Now upon reflection, since we defeated the Serbs in an earlier qualifying game, one must ask the question did Serbia throw that game to avoid the USA until the final, or did we just play our best game against them?
They looked like a different outfit to the one which we played, could they have been planning this all along?
No Serbia here Bear.
These are the standings
1 US
2 Croatia
3 Turkey
