Agreed #533501
Not a great endorsement for the current squad who already have an import and 36ers squad member on their roster.
I wouldn't think the Muppet analogy is correct in this competition that relies heavily on a quality local content. Creating a pathway for juniors is important with many clubs changing their way of thinking with squads made up with at least 50% of club juniors. Unfortunately Eastern Mavericks do not subscribe to this method and continue to look for an easy fix, or take washed up players from other clubs that cant get a gig! I would be very surprised if there was more than 5 players in their senior squad that have played juniors at the club?
Mavs have an advantage over other CABL clubs in that they are "semi regional" and can gather community support far easier than a metropolitan based club. Different competition but the Mt Gambier Pioneers in the SEBL are outstanding in getting the community involved, bums on seats and local media coverage. They always have at least 6-7 local juniors in their squad therefore creating a pathway for players at the end of juniors. Coach Richard Hill who coincidently is a former Mavs coach, is a very smart operator and understands that to be successful you need the local community to embrace the team.
In the CABL here in Adelaide, Sturt, West North and Norwood are teams that come to mind with club juniors on there rosters and great club support. Mavs are doomed to be they easy beats unless they change their culture, Wade Hampton who was given the reins several years ago attempted to do just that but was sacked for trying to blood the kids. Just think what the Eastern team may be like if he had been supported then?
Mavericks need to change and this starts at committee level.
