Downer leaves Taipans
The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans today announced the departure of assistant coach Mick Downer.
Downer held the assistant coach position for six seasons under head coach Aaron Fearne.
Taipans CEO Mark Beecroft said the club and assistant coach had not been able to agree to terms for the upcoming season.
"We are disappointed to see Mick go, but thank him for his dedication to the Taipans and wish him all the best," Beecroft said.
A decision has not yet been made on Downer's replacement, but Fearne said there would be big shoes to fill.
“Mick’s commitment to the club and tireless work ethic has been a huge part of our ongoing improvement as a coaching staff and team over the past six seasons,” Fearne said.
“In particular, he greatly expanded our technical capabilities to ensure we were as efficient and precise as possible in our approach to coaching.”
“Mick has been a huge asset to the Taipans programme and I’m thankful for all of his efforts during his time here,” he said.
Downer is away for the next two months with the Australian World University Games and Boomers squads
