No Brisbane team for 2015/16

"THE Brisbane Bullets will not be part of the 2015/2016 NBL season.

Hopes of reviving the foundation club have crashed with the NBL unable to find a suitable venue to house the team that was first forced out of the competition in 2008.

The Brisbane Convention Centre at Southbank was the favoured venue but NBL chairman Graeme Wade said a deal could not be struck"

Would be good to see them in, but I wouldn't want to see a half baked team that lasts a season or two.

Agreed... get things organised as quickly as possible and then get a good period leading up to getting a team in place with some good marketing and promotion...

A shame that things were promised without really thinking things through as even though it's a legit reason, it still makes the league look bad...

Personally I think putting a team in this late would of been a disaster. Not enough time to build a team, promote/market and sell memberships.

Lets hope for something more solid for the 2016/17 year.

As of next year both Brisbane AND Sydney will not have suitable basketball venues. 2 of the 3 most populated cities in Australia with nowhere good to watch live basketball. How does that happen?

Because Sport money is becoming too focused whereas in the past it was not and the money isnt there to replace aging infrastructure.

"Wade said the Bullets were no good thing to return in the 2016-2017 season.

"You get us the venue, we'll get you the team,’’ he said."

Expecting someone to build a ready-purpose stadium for a non-existent team is fairytale stuff. If this is the type of nonsensical drivel emanating from head office then no wonder prospective investors are avoiding the league like the plague.

There is no suitable here in Brisbane - end of story. I was involved in an argument a few years ago about this very topic with someone halfwit, Brisbane has 3 options -

1 - Convention Centre. This place holds like 4,000 max, is bloody expensive but is a great location.

2- Chandler. Crazy this is even brought up. Its 1000 years old, is in whoop whoop and is barely suitable for my Tuesday night social club

3- Tennis Centre - This is the most realistic option. Good capacity, new and can be ready for pro bball in 6mths. Im not sure Brisbane people will travel out there though as there is no public transport (only city cat) and anyone south of Brisbane won't go there as parking is minimal.

No Lawsy they don't - but it pretty much contradicts the initial post saying that there is no public transport other than the city cat
