U18 SA Women Silver & Bronze

Big congratulations to SA Womens Basketball.

U18 Nationals

Country Silver
Metro Bronze

Just Awesome.

BSA - an elite pathway via a new revived Lightning or new team is vital for our amazing talent. Get creative and make it happen. The talent here in SA deserves it.

yes and we have the u16s coming thru as well.

will be very disappointing if no lightning - but a lot of other options - college, COE, SEABL, WNBL interstate.

Most of those kids will be college bound or just ABL players now thanks to BSA.

Yes because no lightning means that all of these players have no way of playing Wnbl.

So sick of hearing this argument.

No lightning does not mean no national league pathway...If the player is good enough and proves themselves at aba or seabl, or college level, opportunities will be available to play Wnbl.

Well done to the girls

Unfortunately over the years the best SA players have gone interstate to play rather than play for the Lightning so if these girls have to nothing really changes!

Ignorance does not allpw some to understand not evryone is in a position to move interstate or overseas. Financial and family circumstances dictate opportunity for many and others it may be further study and future plannjng for life after basketball.

Ignorance is creating many issue in sport. Ignorance of those observing but not participating or supporting talent.

I would suggest that there is a gender issue as well.

I will chose to ignore those who are ignorant and bypass their comments.

We do need a pathway for those in our state who need or chose to stay and for those who need to come to our state. It os also a matter of role modelling for Women, something that ignoant people may not understand.

For women by women is what we need.

I think everyone in SA wants a Lightning team to go ahead, be successful and provide an opportunity for local players to stay in SA and play at WNBL level.

The issue is who will pay for this to happen? Who will run it? Who will ensure it has long term stability and in turn ensure it has a stable coaching and playing roster?

Girl Proud:

Can you provide information on how many girls have gone through the junior program in South Australia, to then move directly into the lightning side?

Its not a matter of ignorance , its a matter of being realistic. If a player is good enough, they will be successful and reach they level they are capable of, and south australia having a wnbl side does not dictate this.

Or perhaps you would prefer BSA to pour every last cent into the lightning, to then go bust and have no way of providing grass roots pathways.

Girl Proud - have to a plan to make this finanically viable? Or will you just bleat about "gender issues" and whine without putting any thought into how this team will actually be paid for?

Back on topic, if these teams had come 8th & 10th, knives would be out for BSA, coaches, players, refs, managers anyone. How about some congrats all round for some great results plus 2 all star 5 selections. Well done to all!

A big congratulations to the two SA girls teams. Both played some good basketball across the tournament. SA Country were very well organised and played a great brand of team basketball. SA Metro looked very dangerous at the offensive end, with an ability to pile on points very very quickly. Tip of the hat for coming away with 2 medals.
