Nike Hoop Summit

Apparently from the practices -

Tai Wynyard looks overwelmed.

Thon Maker looks soft and overated - "might make a rotation one day"

and Simmons has superstar potential

Labisierre is no way better than Simmons...
His lateral movement is slow. People think he's the next Davis...

Simmons impressing and Maker doing okay according to CBS.

"Thon Maker measured well at 7-foot with a 7-3.25 wingspan, plus has put on some weight to get up to 218. He looks bigger, and with his broad shoulders it looks like his frame would be able to stand another 15-20 pounds. He's working with the big men here (his perimeter skill level has led some to speculate if his future is as a massive wing a la Kevin Durant), and looked pretty solid during practice despite Labissiere getting the better of him. He made a couple of 3s, and used his length to block a few shots in the lane. It's fair to say though that he still doesn't look totally comfortable in the post with his footwork, and that will be the biggest place for him to work to improve."

Maker will be Under the spotlight as the competition increases - looks great in free flowing no defensive competition but may struggle once the clamps are put down
I expect his draft stock may drop a little this year unless he has a stellar season
Simmons - no problem and should be a top 3 pick - his type of player is something teams are looking for
Wynyard is still pretty young but had a huge upside so its hard to be critical of him just yet

Wynyard is by far the youngest player there, just a good experience for him to see how it all works and play against kids with similar ability.

The issue is that pro-scouts and guys critique them at the summit are reviewing the players from an NBA perspective.

They evaluate them as they are NBA players and forget to evaluate them on a "where they are now" basis.

Wynyard is 17 for crying out loud.

It would be great if scouts could evaluate them based on their ages because at the end of the day, the reason they are at the summit is because they are one of the best in the world for their AGE.

^ The fact that you think NBA Scouts (presumably some of the most talented scouts out there) don't take into account age is laughable. They don't just take a player at face value, I'm sure they look at a whole bunch of things

Didn't notice labisierre had 6 blocks during the game.
Standouts were Murray(?), Simmons(lsu) and labsisierre(Kentucky) for world team.

Simmons did his prospects no harm!

Was a really open, free-flowing game too. Was fun to watch.

Simmons was a standout, playing point-forward for parts of the game.

Maker had trouble finishing around the rim - looked like he did not have the strength at times although he looked promising.

Ben Simmons finished with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists as the World team defeated the USA for the third time in four years at the Nike Hoop Summit.

Australian center Thon Maker posted 2 points and 10 rebounds in the 103-101 victory, while New Zealand's Tai Wynyard had 2 points and 2 assists in limited minutes.

Thon Maker's age being exposed, about time.. the move to Canada however was a smart move by Ed but can't hide the fact Thon is 22-23

Not ridiculous, he has admitted that to Aussies before he left. Wait until the bone scans come out, same deal as Yi Jian Lian.

I recorded the game and watched it last night.

Simmons is totally deserving of the hype. If he was eligible for the draft this year he'd go top 5. Good athlete with such great handles and vision for his height. Played the point forward role for much of the game and just looks so at ease on the court. The game comes so easy to him. He likes the flashy pass and somtimes that caused turnovers but other than that he was fantastic.

Makers stock will decrease massively after this game. Based on this game he'd be lucky to go in the first round next year. He just looked uncomfortable on the court and spent most of his time on the perimeter doing nothing. When he went into the paint he was too thin and weak to establish presence. He bricked a few shots in the paint and didn't really show that athleticism, ball handling and upside that we saw in the mix tapes.

I really hope that Simmons is a part of the Boomers team for 2016.

Simmons was very good and justified the hype of being the top ranked player in US HS. But in order to become an all-star level player in the NBA, I do think he needs to work on his offensive game in the half court.

If he plans to play mainly as a small forward he obviously needs to work on his shot, from the perimeter and mid range, and to play minutes at power forward he'll need to work on his post moves.

In any case he still projects to be a great player at the college level and he should have a long NBA career.

Small forward for sure. Just needs to work on his shooting and defense.
