Redhage out six weeks, will miss finals

Perth Wildcats star veteran Shawn Redhage will miss the 2015 NBL Finals with a stress fracture in his right foot.

Redhage experienced discomfort during Sunday's win over the Townsville Crocodiles at Perth Arena.

Subsequent precautionary scans revealed a fracture of his right navicular bone.

A specialist appointment on Wednesday night confirmed that he will need to wear a medical boot for four to six weeks as part of the rehabilitation process - ruling him out of the Wildcats title-defence.

Development player Nic Cody has travelled to Cairns to take Redhage’s spot in the playing roster for Friday night’s game.

Redhage will join his teammates in Cairns this evening.

This will more than likely mean that Cairns will go through to the finals. The only chance I see of them not making it is if Wilbekin has one of the biggest chokes in finals history like he did last year in the NCAA finals.

Redhage hasn't been great this season and Wagstaff has been the better player for a while now.

"Redhage hasn't been great this season and Wagstaff has been the better player for a while now. "

Even if that were true, that isn't really the point.

Cats may actually gel together better than they have, injuries can sometimes force others to step up.

Beal and Daniels will play very loose which is dangerous for Cairns if either or both get going

Wouldn't rule out Perth because of this. Wagstaff is the tougher player IMO, but they lose the ability to soak up fouls and might have to rely more on Hire than they like.

Plus Loughton isn't a bruiser, so Daniels could play some time on him if they're desperate.

Just getting over the shock first Isaac, but you may be right. Besides, the first game Perth played in Cairns this year was virtually without Redhage too and they were in it right up until the end.

Uwe you complain about being trolled yet are more than happy to troll anyone yourself. As Isaac has suggested stick to the topic and stop stooping to the low level of personal attacks

Muzz Buzz, just quit it - it's getting boring. "Ewing Theory" is a reasonable response to a comment about a team doing well without a player and doesn't have to invite "why are you following me" type comments.

And it's hardly surprising that a Perth fan would be in a thread about a key player getting injured the day before their first play-off game.

Redhage is at the twilight of career and Wagstaff is the form player IMO. This will affect the Cats but will be more of a mozzie bite on the skin of an elephant rather than a Taipan bite on skin.

Cairns will be too strong in G1

Whether or not Redhage or Wagstaff are the better player, or Redhage is in the twilight of career etc.

Redhage is a big part of the Wildcats rotation and plays a significant part of the team success.

Can others step up and cover his loss?

The main area of concern will be his ability to score (not always within the offense or great shot selection...)

If Beal, Daniels, and Knight are having a good game at the offensive end then the Wildcats should be competitive.

If not then I can't see them getting over the top of Cairns.

Wonder if the stress fracture is from standing up too long during games? Probably should spend more time on the ground 'flopping' :p

Muzz Buzz, not seeing evidence of trolling or abusive language in this thread. And if it's happened previously or in another thread, there's no reason to bring that attitude to another topic and perpetuate it.

Not sure it will make a big difference, he hasn't had a great year like the team. Even if we happen to jag it past Cairns, no way i could see us beating either NZ and Adelaide.

Redhage averaged 11.4 PPG in 23 MPG. Scored at the same rate as Daniels or Beal. Rebounding was down, but then he hasn't been a strong rebounder for five years.

They have had rotten luck with injuries in finals. Apart from last season they have had injured players in every finals series since their previous championship. Would have like to see a full strength side competing against the breakers in their three peat years as much as this years breakers team up against the james ennis led wildcats of last season

had money on that hip game actually, on adl to win, and it was going to lose as wildcats were coming back with a huge run and had momentum to win the game as this was when sixers were horrible under marty, then the hip happened and momentum gone just like that, so I won the bet, but can't say happy about the nature of the injury, bit of a low blow to be

With Redhage in his current form, Wagstaff is an almost equal replacement, and probably tougher defensively. Problem is they have nobody to replace him. Everybody will have to play more minutes, and fouling could become a problem.
