Div 1 Summer Nominations

How do people feel about other clubs (not current founding member clubs) nominating for Div 1 over the summer season?

The concept is that teams/players from the affiliate clubs get the opportunity to compete against Div1 teams and players over summer when those teams are not at full strength. It gives exposure to the players who are currently playing Div 2 at the higher level and gives them a chance to continue developing their game. Potentially this should only be open to Div 2 teams who have finished in the finals the season before.

Considering that over summer many of the players playing Div 1 are reserves players during winter there is not a massive step up between the grades, but still allows Div 1 teams to play against some different teams who are of a similar standard.

I would go as far as saying that over summer many of the Div 2 teams would be as strong, if not stronger than some of the Div 1 teams.

Who would be capable of putting in a tam that would compete?

No one in the reserves grade seem competitive.

The Men's is a bit different to the Women's at the moment, however both grades have at least 3 teams who are affiliate clubs (if you count Mavs who technically are affiliates). Men's have SA Church, Torrens Valley, Mavs and Adelaide Uni, Women's have United Dist, Flinders and Mavs.
Presently of all these clubs really only Flinders girls are capable of competing at the Div 1 level over summer. As they are sitting in finals for reserves. This is why only teams finishing in finals should be able to nominate to ensure that the standard of competition is sufficient.
The importance of the ability of those teams to be able to attract/retain players because they can play a season of Div 1 in a year can not be overlooked though.
I would be interested to see how many of those clubs have players who have left to play for another club simply because of the ability for them to be able to play at the higher level.

Seeing as none of those teams have feeder/junior teams it is very hard for them to attract/retain players.

It would be very interesting to see how many players from these teams have left member clubs becasue they aren't able to consistantly play div 1 level.

I don't think BASA would be that keen on the idea, as, especially this coming year they are very keen to have Summer Season completed priot to Christmas.
Any more teams in the grades would make it very difficult to get this done.
