VJBL - 14 Second reset

Can someone please tell the refs who waste countless time fiddling with shot clocks on Friday nights that the VJBL have not implemented the 14 second reset?

How about you shoot an email across to the VBRA to issue a directive? I dare say that would potentially generate a far better result than posting on Hoops.

Forget about vjbl can someone please tell the big v refs that if there is a foul with 19 seconds on the shot clock you don't reset it to 14, it's supposed to remain at 19 seconds. Happened in a big v prac match on the weekend.

You BigV practice match was probably officiated by domestic refs not the BigV ones.

Domestic refs are Big V refs....that is the problem

Referees don't run the shot clock either. Perhaps the scorers need to be educated instead of blaming everything on the referees.

Anon^ has a point, scoreboard officials are exactly that, officials of the game, so they need to get it right as much as the referees. Parents who do shot clock duty for the game are officials for that period of time, so if you are a parent who is going to score, please read the rules.

Yes it is not implemented at VJBL level YET. Thank god I say. Games would go on and on, and poor parents ( score bench officials ) will be the brunt of verbal tirades.

It was the refs call to tell the score bench to reset it to 14 otherwise I wouldn't have written about it. Scorebench people make mistakes all the time but I was actually the one taking it out of bounds and the ref was right next to me.

Yes, it is the refs who are telling the scorebench (parents) to do the 14 second reset in the VJBL games.

one issue that has araised since the intro of the rule is that some 24 shot clocks dont reset DOWN. They only reset up. So this could be why the Big V have implemented a rule that the clock doesnt reset down.

The clock is never supposed to reset down in any circumstance

Rule
29.2.3. After the ball has touched the ring of the opponents' basket, the shot clock shall be
reset to
 24 seconds, if the opposing team gains control of the ball.
 14 seconds, if the team which regains control of the ball is the same team that
was in control of the ball before the ball touched the ring.

FIBA Interpretations document

29/50-34 Example: A1 shoots for a field goal with
(a) 4 seconds
(b) 20 seconds
remaining on the shot clock. The ball touches the ring, rebounds and A2 gains control of the ball.

Interpretation: In both cases the shot clock shall be reset to 14 seconds regardless of whether A2 gains control of the ball in the frontcourt or in the backcourt.

So if a team takes a shot with 20 seconds left on the shot clock and gets an offensive rebound why do they lose time, doesn't make any sense at all.

Correct. It is a ridiculously dumb rule. But it is a rule.

VJBL don't use the 14 second clock so none of that matters.

A large part of the issue is score bench, parents need proper training.

You only get a 14 sec clock on an offensive board if the clock is below 14 seconds.

Read the post 4 above.... extracted from the 2014 FIBA interpretations document. It doesnt matter what the shot clock is on.... if the offensive team get the rebound is 14 seconds. whether its 2 seconds on the clock or 22.

adapt what they did in WNBL who had the same issue in one state. reset up to 14 when you need to but hold then restart when it is above.

Apologies, What a stupid rule.

It happens in 3 NBL venues also where the tech wont allow the shot clock reset to 14 if its above

Some of you would be correct in stating its in the Rulebook, however BA i believe has only recommended that ruling be implemented in NBL and WNBL. due to not everyone having the right tech.

There is a reset to 14 if its below 14 but thats only on fouls and foot violations. everything else is set back to 24 (shots, turnovers etc....)

Id assume like the no charge circle and the extended 3 point line that the shot clock ruling will be implemented over time to allow stadiums to upgrade equipment

You assume wrong. It has already been implemented in all BSA junior competitions (that use the shot clock). This includes U/14s where the shotclock doesn't start till the ball goes over the halfway line, so in that grade it occurs a bit.

So the point is the 14 second reset does not apply at all in the VJBL, and it would be great if the refs could stop asking the parents on the clock to use it.

the title states VJBL, Meaning Victoria.

If you read again i said BA recommended. if BSA thinks/knows all their Stadiums have the correct Tech then they can use it.
