SA District Basketball 2014 Review

It's that time of year to look back on the 12 months that was, so;

Any big news or highlights to speak of in 2014?

And what is there to come in 2015?

Desperately Need Pro Rel in Div 3 Summer girls. First season for new players to district is devastating when they are playing the top Div 3 teams as they are all rolled in to one. End of Summer many leave so never get the opportunity to settle in to the correct division in Winter, as in Div 4. Contributing factor to girls leaving as they are so different to boys. Friendships and belonging is more important for them than boys. Could even just split after first 5 rounds to Group A and B and then at the end of 5 weeks ProRel then settle for remaining 8 weeks for Summer.

agree with the pro/rel or some sort of review of u12 and u16 girls div 3 after every few games.

This is the downside of that IMO repressive move to disallow no second div 2 teams for the likes of fville and sturt.

well well well fancy that - as the prophets said pushing those clubs teams down produces that result ......

Yes, even effects those clubs 2nd Div 3 teams so don't think they don't have players suffering too. SA needs good competition to improve on the state and national level to allow our juniors to flourish. Adding more quality teams no matter where they arise from is important beyond individuals gaining a trophy. We must think beyond our clubs for the sake of Australian basketball. It is not as simple as changing clubs as some of those disadvantaged are already close to their home club and may not be able to move due to family circumstances or other commitments. The best solution is to split Div 1/2 and 3/4. Allow any teams that are good enough no matter where from to be a part of the 1/2 comp. 3/4 to local domestic competition that are again split further in to more grades to accommodate all levels. They can run between 3 - 4 regional groups of clubs. The top of that competitions highest grade can move in and out of the 1/2 as they have strong teams. You will find that many more players will be able to play locally and with less commitment more will come in at entry point and stay. 2 CLubs are already doing this successfully and numbers are building. All good for basketball. Why not get it going formally and build like Victoria. The biggest Junior sport in Vic is basketball under this split system. Yes in AFL country Basketball rules.

On topic highlight of Junior SA basketball would have to be the Under 16 SA Metro Girls winning a National Title.
