All-AFL Basketball Team

ALL-AFL BASKETBALL TEAM

Could a basketball team capable of competing at a professional level be assembled using AFL Players?

We searched through current AFL lists and put together a 12-man basketball team to represent the league in this tantalising hypothetical scenario. See who made our starting five and the full 12 man team.

How many people have played basketball against these guys in junior ball pre-AFL? I played against Danyle Pearce - he was hard to guard!

Been many threads about this before if you're interested in looking back for past comments. Seems to come up pretty frequently.

Its not a bad team in terms of size, but it would be like having a team of NBL players playing in the AFL (presumably the Aussie players as pretty much all would have played some footy growing up). They'd get their arses handed to them if the opposition was in any way serious.

Would never happen though except in a non-serious charity game like the ones we saw in the past between the 36ers and Crows.

Get then to have a couple of games of Ten Pin and a round of Darts, then a game of Lawn Bowls followed by some Tennis matches, much more fairer!

Fair point HoldenV8, though most of the guys on the list have State or National rep basketball experience so they'd be more than decent. Plus that Nic Nat dunk it just crazy haha. I guess it'd be a structure thing that comes with playing the game. Same if basketball players had a go at footy, even if the skills are there, chemistry and knowing where to be at the right time is key.

Thanks Isaac, will look them up! Tried in include a few of the new crop, so hopefully it's a fresh look at an oft-done concept.

Micky Luxford who is on the Geelong Rookie list would probably be starting PG.

It would make a competitive team is playing a 10 man roster in the NBL that could include imports

PG - Luxford / Petracca
SG - Pendlbury / Watts
SF - Import / Archie Smith
PF - Goldstein / Downie
C - Import / Sandilands

I think it would also be interesting to pull together the ex-Basketballers who moved to Football but didn't quite make it team. Players like Ben Richmond, James Orr, Ryan Bathie, David Smith, Sam Gilmore, Ben Dowell just to name a few.
