Round 7: Kings vs Taipans

Cairns' amazing run to open the season has been halted - they will be looking to right the ship this week against the Kings on the road.

The Kings on the other hand managed two good wins last weekend against the Hawks and 36ers.

Odds: Sydney Kings $1.77; Cairns Taipans $2.05

Can the Taipans right the ship? I personally think so - Wilbekin to get going and lead the team to a 4 point win.

Preview: Crumbling Cairns take on Kings in Thursday night action

I think the Kings might get this one. Cairns have been white hot, but the scouting report seems to be in on their imports.

It's at the King-dome so the 50:50's will fall one way.

Super second half from Sydney, defended with energy and ran relentlessly. When they run it is just so hard to defend Childress with space, and they did a good job of flowing into offence and keeping Cairns on the hop.

Childress finished with something like 27p, 9r, 7a and 4b! Cadee was also great with 18p, it was almost like he had a green and gold singlet on. Madgen, Perry, Brandt, Duinker, Ellis and Garlepp all made solid contributions too.

Crunch time for Cairns on Saturday against the Hawks. They looked great when the moved the ball in the first half (led 47-41) but once they got stagnant (and kept taking it out of the net) Wilbekin went out of the game.

Incredibly, the Kings got 28 FTs to 4! The rub of the green certainly went Sydney's way, but having said that they (read Childress) attacked the rim hard and deserved more FTs (just not that many!).

Geez, even in Perth Arena you'll get more than 4 FTs :(

Cadee really stepped up last night - he's capable just needs more of an opportunity. Childress is the best import in awhile for this league. Without him the Kings would easily be the worst team in the league. For cairns weigh has gone cold after a hot start. Think craig deserves more of an opportunity. Cairns need to beat wollongong up in cairns to take rhe pressure off after 3 straight losses

Great game Sydney! Childress and Cadee were outstanding. Cairns lose third in a row...

If the Kings don't make the playoffs and Childress continues his form, the MVP will be his (the Rotnei Precedent).

It's pretty hard to narrow it down to five, Loggins, Grace, Fisher, Williams and R Smith were all outstanding (along with many others) and by the end of their time here Childress and Jackson will be considered in that elite group.

Yes Childress is extremely good. BUT I'd like to see the 3 spin moves that were clearly travels called!
Guess what great players travel?? Call the damn thing.

M Camby - Mike Jones, Joe Hurst and Brian Wethers just wanted you to know that it's usually only deemed a precedent if it's happened many times before.

Depends on how you're ranking top fives in terms of imports. Are you looking at longevity and their accomplishments whilst they were in the league or just the level of talent they possessed?

If you're thinking about the latter, then sure, Childress deserves mentioning but I can't see him being around long enough to match the likes of Loggins, Grace, Davis etc in terms of contributions towards teams, championships and the league itself.

Yeah, rating imports needs to be split in to a group of bests, and another group of all time greats. NBL history is littered with some outstanding one and done players, but it's impossible to measure them against the Loggins and Graces of the league.
