WNBL and ABC coverage over?

Interesting reading with Abbott's 'we wont cut ABC funding' now appearing to happen.

If the ABC was being mentioned as covering NBL games that certainly appears definitely unlikely.

NBL get enough coverage as they get main stream tv, but that aside, maybe Abbott would prefer to cover the China league, he seems so far up their backside, that may be the only way we get basketball on national TV.......he HAS to go

I think its more than likely their sport coverage would be affected. If they lose their mobile vans, then it certainly will. This would affect the majority of their non cricket sport coverage. Ie Basketball and Soccer, Netball and Lawn Bowls too.

Maybe they could consolidate back office operations with Mr Whippy?

Losing the vans doesn't necessarily stop sports broadcasting, they would just have to hire them on the market place. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if they dropped women's sport.

Mark Scott tonight answered questions at a Senate Estimates Committee.

He made a passing reference to the WNBL in response to a question about whether the funding cuts would have an impact on sports broadcasts but it was quite apparent that it is too early to know just what will happen at the ABC, irrespective of Mark's best intentions to protect content.

More will be known by early next week.

The ABC is a gigantic, wasteful corporation that sprays $ on its favourite causes - and women's basketball aint one of them.
If it cares about its charter, it will fund WNBL. The money is there if it wants to do it.
