How much would an NBL team cost?
How much would an NBL team cost to purchase outright, and how much would it cost to run?

Costs per year im guessing between $2.3 - $3m
Purchasing the business would be cheap. As a rule of thumb purchase price should equal 3x business earnings. Can't imagine an NBL club having a large amount of earnings. Virtually no real assets or not many in any event.
A lot of contigent liabilities with future contractual obligations e.g. big Luke's salary a classic example, venue hire agreements and lease agreements with company cars.

I remember chatting to Mal Hemmerling when he owned the Sixers. He mentioned upwards of $5m to run the team for a season...

3 mill to run a team well at full salary cap
Some do it for much less

Other than the fact that Anthony Stewart left Btas to pursue other interests. One of them maybe assisting with an NBL bid McCoy wouldn't know and maybe the radio people need to talk to someone who does know.

You'd probably be ponying up between $2m for a club in distress like Townsville, to a value of something like $40m for the Wildcats (at a guesstimate of 3x $14m annual revenue).

3 million to run it, $2.5 mill if you didn't go all out on the cap, plus got a great deal on an arena. Depends on where you are I think. If you are establishing a new team, you'd have higher initial setup costs, but you can build the culture from scratch.

Been mulling over this since my last post. 10 home games a season, means you need to factor in 10 stadium hire fees. This can range from $500 for a 1000-2000 person venue, to thousands for a large one. If we go with maybe a 3000 person stadium, lets assume we are paying $750 a game (7500 for the season). Insurance, wages and concessions and such will raise this, but we don't have something to measure this on. 10 away games means airfairs for the team for 10 trips, including at least 2 long hauls (to Perth and NZ). Add in up to 1 million for wages, and this part gets expensive quickly.
If you are looking to save cash, outsource your concessions (means you don't make money on it, but you don't have to fork it out either), obtain Airline sponsorships when possible (decrease costs), and locate withing Bus distance (say an hour) of another team to drop airfares for that game.

how much you think it would be to have an expansion team in Winnipeg?
Sydney Kings were paying $20k per game night on entertainment alone! Most clubs would be between $5mil to $10mil per year, a little more for the big boys.
