Emus team named

Came out earlier today:

http://www.basketball.net.au/airbnb-australian-emus-team-named/

I thought Caporn might have picked another big but I guess this team will have to get them over the line.

^Unfortuantely, I guess you've been out of the loop or didn't realise Owies wassn't even named in the squad, so I don't think he was ever going to be named.

Not saying he shouldn't have been considered, but he was never going to be named in this team because of that.

I'm sure there will be lots of debate about the merits of those that got selected and those that didn't.

But, good luck to those that got selected.

Go get the gold medal and earn the right to go to the world's next year.

Expect that NZ will not be easy beats.

^ Where have you been, get with the program.

They're all in the USA. Three at High School, one at College. They're not about to fly out for this this tournament. And their High Schools or College may not allow them.

^^ They MAY make themselves available if this team wins Gold in Fiji and we get a spot at the World's in Greece next year.

Thanks Alpha for the link, it looks like a pretty good team. Great to see Jock seems to be up and playing, recovery for him was important and as a reserve he is the big player the team has been after.

There is lots of athleticism in the team and some very good shooting, then the inside game is also very strong too. NZ will be strong, I would like to see their team listed too...

Do they have some internet coverage of the games at Suva, anyone know if we can watch them online?

Dont think fiji is the concern. New Zealand will be strong so too a few of the other teams. And you must win to make worlds

Wait so only one of aus and nz can qualify for worlds? That's a bit dumb.

Yes new format now so for all those saying "its only oceania" if they dont win their is NO worlds. And so the best teams possible should be going. At the pacific champs last year which is a senior tournament not a junior so the aussie teams were very young, our men had very tough games against older players who were probably not as athletic but those teams had some talented home grown players.its possibly not going to be as easy as they think.throw in new zealand and you have yourselves a competition. All these other teams have been training for months as a group unlike the aussie kids who due to budget restrictions have not. The new zealand teams have been touring overseas all through this year. Talk about going unprepared.joyce puts no importance on these games obviously due to past results, lets hope it doesnt bite him in the bum

Joyce probably also puts little importance on it as he is the Opals coach, not the Boomers...

A nice review of the team by Aus Bball prospects for PnR:

ustralian U19 Emus squad selected for FIBA Oceania U19 Championships | Roster + Preview

Will be interesting to see if and when Australia qualify how BA treat the preparations for the World Champs next year given so many will be based in the USA. One would think a camp would be better off being held in the US and thus ensuring the services of the likes of Simmons, Maker and Adel just for starters. By then Humphries will also be over there too.

Their will be no camps in USA, nothing in the budget at all, next camp after Oceania apart from AUS development camp in man to which few of the un19 athletes are even going, will be a single camp in 2015 shortly before worlds where the final team will be picked .....providing they win Oceania
