Scottie Pippen was a pretty awesome defensive small forward.

C: Dikembe Mutombo - his finger wave, gotta have the finger wave.

PF: Big Ben Wallace - go the fro

SF: Artest - mental issues, but the best defender in todays NBA.

SG: Jordan - enuff said in the name alone

PG: Payton - any bloke with the nickname 'glove' has to be mentioned.

C - Shaquille O'Neal
PF - Shaquille O'Neal
SF - Shaquille O'Neal
SG - Shaquille O'Neal
PG - Shaquille O'Neal

From the first half of that hilarious Reebok ad all those years ago, when the team of Shaqs takes on the other team of Shaqs and it's scoreless at half-time - only for Shaq to say "fellas, we can't win if we don't score" and the second half turns into a dunkfest.

Walt Frazier for sure.

Bruce Bowen has to be a chance. He lives for defence.

Ewing, Robinson and Hakeem made West Conference road trips scary for the late 80's and 90's.

Jordan says his toughest battles are with Joe Dumars. Greatest offensive player of all-time gives a guy wraps like that, he automatically makes the team.

KingJames, Bowen has been All-NBA defensive team 3 years running. That's no hack.

I read on ESPN that Manu has the sh*ts with his agent cause Manu shares the same agent as Raja Bell who has said he will goto the Suns.

Manu was pissed and told his agent that he helped the Spurs biggest competition in the West, the Suns get the one player that Manu has the most trouble with, Bell.

Raja Bell, now there is an underated and unappreciatged player.

Heres a job for someone with little work to do today on this wet wednesday.

Find out the top 5-6 All Defensive team winners and make a team from that.

Then find the 5-6 best Defenders from before the award was introduced and make a seperate team and then well compile the real team.

Kriss,

From what I can find since the All-Defensive Team came in, in 1968/69. The top 5 most name players were:

Gary Payton (9 times)
Scottie Pippen (8 times)
Michael Jordan (8 times)
Bobby Jones (6 times)
Dennis Johnson (6 times)
David DeBusschere (6 times)
Hakeem Olajuwon (5 times)
Dennis Rodman (5 times)
Jerry West (5 times)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (5 times)

Could make 2 MAD defensive teams out of that.

Am I remembering right in saying that David Robinson won a couple of defensive player of the year awards???

Panther,

You're on the right track. DR only won a single DPOY award, however he was named in the All-Defensive Team First Team 4 times.

Wasn't Graham Kubank a defensive juggernaut? And Simon Dwight has to go in as a PF or SF

true. Dwight gets a spot.

ABL - Puds is pretty good, don't know about an all-time spot though.

Reggie is a possibility.

I tried to put Cioffi in at SG, but my computer kept coming up with an "error" message.

Bizzy,

check your info:

Rodman was All-Defensive 1st team SEVEN times, not five

Bobby Jones EIGHT, not six

For the record, my All-Time NBA All-Defensive Team is

C Bill Russell
F Dennis Rodman
F Scottie Pippen
G Michael Jordan
G Walt Frazier

See how much you can score against that!!

Also, for NBL, can't forget Mike Kelly.

ABL, don't forget Jason Williams, and Dion Grieger

Basketball Reference.com gives Ben Wallace the best defensive rating in history. That should be proof of him being the best defensive player, though pure statistical analysis
