"The culture of Maori appears to be well known among almost all Kiwis I come across, yet here in Aus we know little about our Aboriginal culture. I don't know a Kiwi who does not know the Hakka for example, so good on NZ for teaching their culture in the schools!"
Mainstream Australian awareness of Indigenous culture could certainly be better, but remember that Maori culture is much more of a singular culture than Indigenous Australian culture, i.e. one language, Haka etc., so awareness and integration into mainstream culture is easier. Indigenous Australian culture is much more diverse with many different nations and languages and dialects within it. Still I agree Australian awareness should be better.
On the game, I think it's a mighty fine effort by the Australians to beat a team that had Tall Blacks Everard Bartlett and Lindsay Tait in it. Especially when we had Darryl White suit up, who if I'm not mistaken is the same Darryl White who is a long retired AFL player and the father of the McDowell-White boys.
