Is this something anyone would ever look at? If NBL teams are increasingly playing against Asian teams and with influential people calling for a greater partnership between Australia and Asian teams. Personally I think it should definitely happen. Oceania, minus NZ is internationally non-existent.

Comments here at the Asian Games from the President of the Olympic Council of Asia that they would welcome Australia joining the OCA, starting with the Asian Winter Games in 2017. This guy is the kingmaker of world sport. If he says it, it happens.
Football led the way in 2006, hopefully more opportunities open regionally.

No we currently have the easiest qualifying path of any nation.

I don't know how this works for hoops, but if it is similar to the soccer model then money would be the main attraction, via some Asian cup type of post season championship.
Other than that, why would we consider leaving Oceania?
