F'Ville vs Tigers

Eagles girls got up over the Tigers tonight, 92-75. Tigers led 32-23 at the Q time break, but a 26-11 3rd Q from F'Ville was too much.

Narelle Lindsay hit 29 points on 12/23 FGs, while Deanne Ranford had 27, while adding 6 rebounds & 4 assists. Cherie Smith notched a double double with 17 points & 11 boards and Kylie Newbold pulled down 16 rebounds.

For the Tigers, Peddle had 20 points, including 4 3s (2 big ones in the last Q!) Tam Birbeck had 19 points and Simone Nelson had 17 (only 7/22 FGs though).

Seems the biggest difference in the stats was rebounds (62-37 F'Villes way) and shots taken (84-65 Eagles).

In the guys the Eagles got up 103-93. Eagles were up the whole game, and held the lead between 5-15 for the majority of it. Tigers made a few runs, but could never get their noses in front.

Dix seemed reasonably quiet, but managed 32 points & 17 boards. By my calculations he had 62 HSA for the game. Gange chipped in with 19 points, Farman had 16 & 8, Sully had 14 & Sutton 11 (along with 5 boards & 7 assists).

Bowley worked hard for the Tigers, and finished with 20 (9/15 FGs) & 11. Gerlach had 18 & 7, Wood 14 & 5 (fouled out) & Matt Hardiman hit some tough J's and creative drives for his 15 points.

Very scrappy game. Resembled an U14s game at times. Forestville's offence was very disorganised. Sutton was the only one who seemed to control the game for them, and even he had 5 T/O's.

Gerlach was good, but not great. Hit 3/4 3s, but didn't create a whole lot off the dribble. Hoban was still disappointing, 1/6 FGs, 5 points & 2 boards in 14 mins. For a guy who looked so promising over summer, he's certainly had a disappointing season. Bowley got an unsportsmanlike in the 4th quarter. DMT & Woods got a double foul, then Bowley decided it'd be a smart idea to knock Dougie to the floor. While Dougie only made 1 of the 4 FTs, it seemed to kill any chance the Tigers had of coming back.

All in all, not a particularly impressive game. Eagles will need to play better to get wins come finals time.

As a side note : Am I the only one wishing Heath Jury would just shut up? He's the Assistant, why refs don't ditch him every game is beyond me.

Mike, West won both. Up by 12 in the women, and a 35-point thrashing in the men.

Man, what is wrong with the flames??? Last I heard they were dominant in the summer season!!!! well that is a good call cause they were dominant in the summer but lost by 30 against one of the lowlier teams to cement a bottom positiion.

Good to see Gange playing well. 25 i think v Warriors last week and 19 this week. And he's still very young as well.

The unsportsmanlike foul certainly would have to get the coveted DOUGIE SEAL OF APPROVAL! Having said that, it didn't extinguish the Tigers chances.

As an aside:
At times it may have resembled the scrappiness of U/14's but you have to admit there were times when it was very high quality basketball.

Farman's attempted dunk getting sent to the cheap seats inside the final minute is a case in point...

Dix was his usual self last night, unstoppable in the first quarter and from there was content to get it done from the stripe (14/15). Don't remember him impacting offensively too much in the final quarter but there was really no need, guys like Gange and Farman keeping the board ticking over.

BC - Yeah, there were patches of high quality basketball, and there's no question that both teams were committed.

Dixie was very quiet for 32 & 17 I thought. I would have said maybe 25 & 12. Typical Dix though. I actually thought the Tiggers bigs played him well.

TCP,

I've received one tech in three seasons at ABA level... had a few warnings tho.
Two reasons, maybe i've been around long enough to have earnt some respect ... maybe not but i'd like to think so.
The rest of the time id like to think im trying to keep our guys heads in the game and keep their intensity levels up, we have a very young group that can go missing at times, if we could be consistent over 4 quarters we would have won a lot more games.
This is mens bball TCP, im not going to sit there like a field mouse, if the refs or the club had a problem with my behaviour im sure id know about it by now.
Thoughts?

Dix played a typically effective game, but it was interesting that he couldn't stop Bowley from scoring in the second half, when he got most of his 20-odd points. The Eagles eventually switched DMT on to Bowley.

At least I THINK it was DMT, as by that stage I was nearly blinded by the light reflecting off the top of Bowley's and Dix's collective heads. Not a lot of hair happening there.

to be honest i dont think dix cared for bowley collecting some second half points. the damage was done, and i am sure if the tigers got closer than 6 or 7 dix would have gone on the rampage again. dix is the best player in the league there is no doubt about that.

Heath, The refs would or should pull you up if need be. The rule is quite clear on assistant coaches they are not permitted to discuss calls with officials. YOur head coach can ask for rule interpretation and your job is not related to the umps.

I can accept that Fella's, in the heat of battle i admit some rules are easily forgotten.
I'll be sure to watch my P's and Q's.

...And if the refs objected, then surely they would do something about. Can TCP find something worthwhile to bitch about?

Apparently one of the Womens game refs got a dressing down from the Umpires Observer.
